The Infamous "pocket peice"

I like the worn ASE look alot, reminds me of a beat up Morgan or Peace. Being thet people don't use ASE for their dollar face I think its pretty cool looking at one that looks like it is in circularion.

It went to the "other side" so it's cross-country Still makes a cool story to tell the kids.

Also, gets them thinking about the value of Big coins! Although my son has just switched affection from Ikes to war nickles...

I collect a lot of silver and it wasn't until last week when I gained an appriciation for war nickels. I found 4 searching through rolls and bought 10 for $14 at a antique store last weekend.

 

They certainly make a different sounding jingle in your pocket!

 

I live near Tacoma, WA so I know what you mean about the sun. I just can't help playing with it though - let me rephrase that, I can't help playing with it at home. I'm too scared to let anyone know I collect coins. Did you hear about the retired Army vet who was murdered for his coin collection? It was near where I live. My collection isn't worth very much but still...

 

I became interested in war nickels when I received one in change - and how happy I was one would have thought I just won $500.

 

I felt the same the first one I pulled from roll hunting. I felt like it hit it big on a scratch ticket for something that is currently only worth $1.91, but hey it only cost me .05.

 

Oh I don't worry to much about letting ppl know i have a coin collection,
1st anything of value is kept in the safe, bolted to the floor.
2nd BIG dog in the house
3rd decent alarm/video system
finaly... Great big ugly TCA G2 .357 Magnum under my pillow and most of my walls covered in sharp pointy objects
None of this is fool proof but since I spend 99.9% of my time at home and when I'm not home the guys from the Diablo's clubhouse up the street keep and eye on things for me I kinda feel bad for anyone stupid enough to try to rob me

I'm envious of your security situation and it sounds like you've got a good handle on things. I'd just rather not tell people I have small shiny things worth money stashed away. Now if I'm at the coin shop then all bets are off!

 

Hehe not over the pocket piece but the whole of my collective endevors. I've also got a raw gem and mineral collection and as mentioned the Pointy objects all over the walls are a knife/sword collection. As for sounding a bit paranoid, I was robbed 2 years ago by a visiting nurse who took my womans jewelry case includeing a 900yr old buddist prayer ring and a .31c flawless blue diamond ring. small stone but worth in the area of 6k by itself all told we lost almost 15k in jewelry and got a whopping 2.5k from the insurance company. Since that happened I've taken precautions to prevent it ever happening again.

 

Ouch mrweaseluv! There's another thread where a new article was posted about a pair of young adults who robbed a home of their coin collection and used it to buy pizza, movies, and soda! According to the article the couple of thieves were hired to do some work around the house.

 

Decided to start walking around with this Peace dollar. I have a good amount of silver but surprisingly this is my only Peace and I like it a lot.

 

I carry a 2009 copper Liberty Dollar as a pocket piece. It's great to show as a conversation piece.



And yes, I do keep it in an air-tite. LOL

 

Well, it's time to stir this pot again. We're gonna call it "Pocket-Polishing" for want of a better term.

Found this 1901-O Morgan in a pile of bullion, and noted the uncommon (puzzling, to me) pattern of wear on the reverse.

I washed it (Gasp!) in soapy hot water. I'm gonna carry it around with the other (with the lead-plugged hole...see my pics early in this thread) for awhile...like into the new year, but not very far.

Then I'll snap another couple pics and do a 'before & after' entry here.

Meanwhile: Merry Christmas, Season's Greetings, whatever...To ALL of you, your family and friends.

There...that feels better, and was a whole lot easier than licking a roll of stamps, and cheaper, too!

 

Here's my pocket coin. 1883 Morgan. But some times I use a 1923 Peace. They make a great excuse for me to babble on about coins for a bit.
