1943 steel cents that are proof-like definitely exist. From your photos I can't tell if you have one of those, or if it has been polished or otherwise altered. Genuine 1943 steel cents with nice proof-like finish, especially those that exhibit nice cameo contrast, are pretty rare and often command significant premiums if the seller knows what they have. Here's a nice example with pretty decent cameo that I picked up at one of the Long Beach shows last year, the obverse is fully proof-like, but the reverse is sort of ugly:
I suspect that all of us (posting in this thread) learned about Lincoln cents by filling holes in our collector albums. Here is a collector coin from my Lincoln cent album. As I recall it was tough to find a good strike for this 1924-S date.
