So my husband decided to buy me something special for my 40-year cancer free status and upcoming birthday. He is an OTR truck driver and I always ask if he has any special coins for me from another region of the US. The other day he brings me a bag and said he bought these and wanted to know if he did good.

Well.......I really hated to burst his bubble after looking at what he bought. I thanked him for thinking of me but insisted on him telling me how much he paid for the following:
    1971-D Eisenhower Dollar
    1972-D Eisenhower Dollar
    1973 Eisenhower Dollar
    1974-D Eisenhower Dollar
    1976 Eisenhower Dollar
    1977-D Eisenhower Dollar
    1978-D Eisenhower Dollar
    1979-S SBA
    1980-S SBA
He tells me he paid $30 for all of them. He thought they were special since they were in a slab and all graded. I explained that there was no name of a grading company on the slabs and these had to be graded/placed in slabs by an individual trying to make them look expensive; all while showing him the scratch marks and such on each coin. I also pointed out that the mint mark was not noted on any slab except the 1980-S SBA. He then asked how much should he have paid for them....I told him he paid about $20 too much but I was still happy with his choice....but from now on leave the buying of coins to me since he has no knowledge at all of what to look for.

What do y'all think of these? I will say the SBA's were good choices though. Was I wrong?

If my wife brought these home for me, I would say "THANK YOU !!!".

It is nice he is thinking of you. My wife got me a couple coins last Christmas... I already had them. I said "thank you" and that was all.

I thanked him and appreciate him trying. I'm keeping 'em because they were a gift from him. But he asked and I had to tell him the truth. He wasn't too disappointed. He thanked me for the crash course in buying slabbed coins and said he will still keep his eye out for things. I love him so much for even thinking of me!

I like em Kbaby. Are those the do-it-yourself holders? I have a green no name holder, but never seen any like those.

I don't really know. Hoping someone here could tell me more about them. He did say they were originally in a wooden box with older ones too but he didn't have enough money for the entire box. They wanted $200 for the slabbed coins and box (missing about 5 for a complete set)

Buy the coin not the holder!!! Hard to tell from the pics, but they look darn nice, especially the 71 Ike. If they grade as high as they look, $30 is a darn good deal

Does the hologram sticker just say "Authentic"? Or does it also say something else?

It's scratched but all in all I still like the coins.

I bought some Ikes and SBAs in those same type of slabs before! I only paid a few $ for them, thought it was worth it as the slabs are kind of neat.

They are in the cheaper of the two styles of CoinWorld holders.

A few years ago my youngest son excitedly gave me a common cent he found somewhere. To anyone else it is and never will be worth everything, but to me its priceless and one of the few coins I personally own. IMO, your fact your husband cares enough to support your hobby, regardless of his technically overpaying, shows he actually did very good.

Yes, from the looks of the embeded logo in the corner of the slab, I believe they are coin world DIY slabs ;)

I saw these and wondered if they were the same ones.

Also on the Authentic sticker are the following emblems:
