The mint's preliminary schedule for 2013 shows the release of a Two-Coin American Silver Eagle West Point Set!

Mint News Blog suggests it may be a 75th anniversary set but they said that 2013 would technically be 76th year anniversary of that mint.

Here's to high hopes that they finally give us a HIGH RELIEF ASE.

I wouldn't be disappointed if they did a W-Reverse Proof, but I would be irritated if they give us the regular old W-Proof and the W-burnish in the set.

A high relief ASE would be great. They need to keep changing things up
to keep us interested or I will start putting a little more of my money in the hands of the Perth mint.

Yeah not only would it be great but I would be sure to buy a set like that. After the 2012 set that was sold for only a month, I'm leery of ever buying a set again. It was a great looking set but the way they sold it took all the money out of it.

Then the mint came out with the coin and currency set with "special" S mint proof. Talk about pulling a fast one.

They keep sticking it to us but we keep coming back. Our stupidity has become the mints cash cow.

I would expect that they will do the burnished and proof set. My first instinct when they say "set" and don't specify any coin is to look at what they currently make and if there are enough coins to make the set from those. In this case, two W mint SAEs already exist. It's a two-coin set, ergo nothing new or special in this set. But nothing is certain...

If they did the W Proof and Reverse Proof it could be another S proof fiasco. Why not a D Proof, a reverse W proof Or better yet, a D Proof and D Reverse Proof. I'd buy that.

I don't understand people's anger on this. It's not like the two coin set was a limited mintage. If they said we'll only mint 100,000 and then afterward announced that more of the coins would be available, then I'd understand. This set had an unlimited mintage potential because the two coin set was advertised as mint to order.

There was no misleading at all. People just got mad that they could break up the sets and flip both coins at a premium. Nothing was harmed by them making more "S" mint proofs available. In fact, it made the reverse proof a scarcer coin than the regular proof thereby guaranteeing a premium for the reverse proof coin and the two coins set in general.

So if you achieved a premium for the set, what's the complaint?

I'd like to see them do a high relief ASE. Do something really special, then in 2014 totally change the design of the ASE.

why on earth would you change the design on the most popular coin in US history?

Most popular coin in US history? I don't know about that.

I think the US mint needs to change it up a bit. It's been over 25 years, lets get a new design. If they want to rehash another design, so be it (Standing Liberty quarter design would be nice!) or something new/original with a bit of a classical style to it.

If you're tired of the design, stop buying it.

If enough people stop buying it, it might be time to change the design, but if it continues to sell in the millions...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I think you guys are missing the point. I buy them for their bullion content. I could care less really what the design. I didn't realize it was bad to ask for a new design. Sheesh!

300 million purchased doesn't mean it's the most popular. I would think the Lincoln cent surpasses that by a long shot.

Apples and oranges. People don't buy Lincolns for the same reason they buy Eagles.

I know that. Thing is, a statement was made that the ASE was the most popular coin in US history. A statement I highly disagree with. Like I said, I would think the Lincoln cent would be the most popular coin in US history. It's over 100 years old and billions upon billions have been minted. I would say you could probably find some in every country on this planet.

    Anyway...

If it's a burnished and proof, I'm not buying. If it's an RP and/or UHR, yes please. Oh, and hopefully they can get their QC sorted by then, 'cause the 2012 RP fields were embarrassing.

Number minted is no indication of popularity.
    People throw Lincolns away.
People don't bother to pick them up if dropped.
People just toss them into those little 'take a penny, leave a penny' trays.
When was the last time you saw someone just throw an Eagle away?
