It took me almost 2 years to find this coin in the condition I wanted. This is a two year type coin, minted only in years 1955 and 1965. This 1965 example was minted in only 100,000 pieces, as compared to the much more common 1955 piece minted in a quantity of 1.5 million coins.
Krause and Mishler catalog all world coins with a number. The number helps to look up a specific coin.
Aaaaaaaah, I see! I still have to get me one of those. All I know is she is silver (approx 85%) and she is beautiful. The one I just posted is a 1960.
They are beautiful; but with conquering the German Empire, new US and foriegn bullion coins I have my hands full. - Look here http://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2716.html some of these years are minted in really low numbers!
I know I have posted this before, but if you don't want to purchase the paper copies of the Krause books (one per century), then you can usually find your coins on the NGC website that hosts an online version of the Krause publications (see link here). Just type in part of the country name, and a date, and try to find you coin among the suggested choices. Here is what the page looks like for the 1960 500 Lire (highlighted).
Yes, I use the NGC site a lot. You can also google a km# and coin name in google books, and it will bring you to the correct page in all the coin books.
Just picked up a 1933 Chinese Junk Dollar, much rarer than the 1934 version. Bought in Austria for 90 euro hammer price so a bit of meat on the bone there.....but not gonna make me rich. A nice addition to to my Chinese collection. Post purchase update: made rookie mistake, the auction house made an error in their catalogue description and it turns out to be the common 1934 variety worth less than half what I paid, so the transaction was cancelled.
