I try and roll hunt a few times a week and I don't have the time to do a lot of volume. I do it to find silver and wheats, but I know there are a lot or error coins that I am just not familiar with, what are some good ones to keep an eye on, any denomination will do and a ball park value of any of the raw coins. Thanks -Dave
You can find previous threads in the roll hunter's section of CoinTalk describing the errors they have found. I would recommend you get a book describing errors & the minting process. One book is called the Error Coin Encyclopedia by Arnold Margolis. This will help you identify true mint errors VS post mint damage. You may also want to get the Cherrypicker's Guide by Fivas.
I personally first sort all the coins by denomination, date & mint mark. I then look-up that denomination, date, & mint mark in my reference books & Internet references. I then examine the coins of that denomination, date, & mint mark (while the information from my books is still fresh in my head). After some searching, I no longer need to refer to the reference material but I still sort all the coins by denomination, date, & mint mark before examining them closely under magnification. Let us know what you find.
