I can't quite see what it is, but I would be hesitant to call it a doubled eyelid.

Might that be a "doubled eye"? ;)

If it was a doubled die, I would expect other parts of Lincoln to be doubled as well. I am not seeing that, so I am somewhat hesitant.

Sometimes I read too fast, too. I edited to add the wink.

No problem. The comment wasn't directed at you, I just wanted to add a little more info.:thumb:

They can't all be gems. It's not the first time I've bombed. Probably not the last, either.

That's not very sexy, though. Isn't there a more numismatically precise term ?

    4 Fe+ 3O₂ + 6 H₂O → 4 Fe(OH)₃

let me know if that is sexy enough for you.

    Thanks non-cents: dorktasmic!

I promise not to clean it, but the snow-white fur defintely spread - creeping, in my Whitman slider. It wasn't there __years ago.
Not a common steel penny ailment? It looks like Christmas.

I disagree with you on this, Iron(III)hydroxide is yellowish- red in color. Since the steel cent is zinc plated , it makes more sense to me that is "white rust", a combination of zinc hydroxide and zinc carbonate along with the normal zinc oxide. Usually zinc oxide forms and provides a protective patina to zinc cents, but water and/or cleaning can remove it and allow white rust ( misnomer) to form. As a combination of crystalline molecule, they can form such growths as in "crystal gardens"
