Ebay people, what do you do and why?

I suppose so long as the mailman has to stop at your house anyway, it doesn't matter. But then why any need to schedule a pickup, why not just leave it out by the mailbox for pickup? My attachment to the post office is primarily so I can get all my hobby publications and other coin related purchases etc sent there. In the unlikely event it gets delivered to the wrong PO box there is a much better chance of it getting returned to me than if that happened with a residential address. Plus, even a numismatic periodical or advertisement delivered to the wrong residential address represents a significant security risk. I probably sound paranoid about it, and I don't keep much in the way of coins around the house anyway, but I don't think you can be too careful about maintaining anonymity when it comes to lowering the chances of a break-in.

I don't "schedule a pickup". I asked her. So long as I am putting out small packages (typically 2 - 6 ounces), she does not care.

If you don't have incoming mail today, the carrier, not knowing that you have outgoing mail, just walks or drives by your house without stopping. That's why you schedule a pick up. No extra cost to the Post Office, as the carrier is there at your home anyway.

Congressional mandate requires the USPS to fund retiree pension and health care benefits now for those employees that will be retiring in 75 years, employees that haven't even been born yet. Get rid of that requirement and the Post Office will be profitable again.

The advantages of living in the same house for 30+ years. I cannot remember the last day I did not get mail all-be-it junk mail and I mean years. Not only that, I know the mail person and she knows me.

Of course. I just walk down my driveway and put it in my box. Can't beat that!

For what you need to establish value look at DMM 609 3.2 evidence of value here we have

    a. Sales receipt, invoice or bill of sale, or statement of value from a reputable dealer.

    or

    g. A copy of a canceled check, money order receipt, credit card statement, or other documentation indicating the amount paid. For Internet purchases, a copy of the front and back of the canceled check, money order, or a copy of the credit card billing statement is required.

    or

    h. For Internet transactions conducted through a Web-based payment network that offers payment services through a stored value account, provide a computer printout of the online transaction identifying the purchaser and seller, price paid, date of transaction, description of item purchased, and assurance that the transaction status is completed. The printout must clearly identify the Web-based payment network provider through which the Internet transaction was conducted.

If you have a street box, this works well.

Some people have their mail box on the wall next to their front door, just a slot in their door or neighborhood cluster boxes.
There are no flags in those cases. That's where a request for pick up comes in handy.

I know I've seen currency, coins, bullion, etc on a USPS list of excluded items, but I can't seem to find it right now. Maybe it was for international shipments.

Funny thing is, I went through the whole process of shipping a package to see if any sort of link appeared for their shipping insurance terms and conditions and it didn't. Hrmm...

Anyway, here's the blurb from FeeBay's insurance limitations:

Ebay USPS postage due to ease of use, it's a little cheaper than USPS regular prices.

Re the postage issue, whenever I print out my own postage thru Ebay, the only option I get is signature confirmation, which is way more expensive than delivery confirmation. So I end up going to the post office to save money. How do you get delivery confirmation when you self-print?

You don't need to do anything. It is free and the tracking information is automatically uploaded into the listing so that both the buyer and seller can track the package effortlessly.

Wow, thanks for that info. I wish I knew that a year ago, I'd have saved a bundle.

After much searching, I did find this on the USPS web site, but it seems it only applies to international parcels:

I like the little blurb at the end "and other valuable or prohibited articles." Basically, you can ship and insure items, as long as they aren't on this list and have no value.

Yeah, I sell on ebay but I print my postage labels on PayPal. I've never tried ebay except for once when my printer wasn't working correctly. Someone mentioned that they still do it the old school way of stamps and off the the PO. I used to do that but when I started printing through PayPal I quickly realized how much money I could save, it was a real eye opener.

Yes and since I sent out over 500 items this year the saving more than paid for the printer and all supplies for it. And it's ten miles to the post office for me. But the little guy really likes the morning walk down to the mailboxes each morning with stuff printed from home.

Don't any of you miss the camaraderie of waiting in line at the post office? The charming clerks? The smell of freshly delivered mail in the morning??
