150th Anniversary Currency Set

I'll be interested to see what serial block is used for the $2. Since the circulation printing of 2009 $2's for New York went up to B32000000A, the B2012... note in the set might be pulled from that printing--in which case, it isn't significantly different from what you can find in circulation for face value. Now, if it's got a suffix letter other than A, then it's a low-printing block available only direct from the BEP, so it'll probably have a much better chance of commanding a premium in future.

The BEP uses both methods sometimes. For example, the Lucky Money 8.8.8 set from a few years ago contains a $1, $2, and $5 with matching serials; the $1 and $5 were pulled from circulation-issue print runs, but the $2 is a special printing (block H..E) that's only available in that set.

If this 150th Anniversary set works like that, then I might consider buying it. But if it's just two ordinary notes with ordinary circulation-issue serials, then it's worth $7. Maybe $7.95 if you like the cardboard folder, but certainly not $49.95.

 

Total value of that set $7. $49.95 doesn't strike me as a good deal, no.

 

This is the picture they sent me. It does look like the suffix is "A".

I might buy a few hoping for a radar or a repeater.

Not me, I don't buy made up collectors items, I'll stick with the normal for circulation printing.

Buy and collect what you will, but why belittle what others may buy and collect that is not to your tastes?

I'd buy the set if they had reprints of the 1862 notes in them - especially the 1st obligation.

BTW I am not offended by the flag. But I am offended by the people that use it for the wrong reasons, be it some political, racial or an imagined memory of an alleged ancestry.

 

I'm buying a set. It's waaaay too late for me to turn back now, and maybe I'll be one of the lucky 150 names selected in the drawing.

 

Based on this statement on the Mint's web site, "The 150[SUP]th[/SUP] Anniversary Currency Set is limited to 10,000 total units.",
these notes will have to numbered from 20120000 through 20129999 and 18620000 through 18629999.

The highest serials for the first 150 sets will be 20120149 and 18620149.

 

Can you win the opportunity to by one or two?

"All customers who purchase the 150[SUP]th[/SUP] Anniversary Currency Set during the first month of release will be entered into a drawing to win the opportunity to purchase one of the first 150 sets based on serialization...A quantity restriction of two sets will be imposed for drawing winners."

The 150 winners will have an opportunity to purchase one set autographed by Rosie Rios (Treasurer).

Maybe you can purchase two sets if some of the drawing winners do not want an autographed set ?

 

Yes, that's what the first line says. The second line "A quantity restriction of two sets will be imposed for drawing winners." ​contradicts that.


But maybe one person's name can be drawn more than once, but not more than twice?

 

That means if you win the draw for one of the first 150 you can only buy one other set that has a serial of 151-10,000 (if that makes sense :smile)

No, that can't be right, because it also says that the household purchase limit is 100 sets, not 2 sets.

Exactly. If you buy 100 ordinary sets, then you get 100 entries in the drawing for the autographed sets--but you're not allowed to win more than two of them. Of course, having 100 entries in the drawing still makes you a lot more likely to win than someone else who only has, say, two entries in the drawing.

So SORRY my answer was not to your liking. I was NOT BELITTLING you or anyone else.

Again, I only collect notes that were made for normal circulation.
I do not collect any type of made up Commemoratives or special Anniversary issues of anything. That's why I wont be buying the "special" issue. Why do you seem to have a problem with that. I may be wrong but I think I get it, your a nice guy as long as everyone agrees with you.

Maybe I jumped too hard and fast on your avatar, and for that, I apologize.
Calling anything someone collects a "made up collectible" is my biggest peeve.
To me, it does sound belittling.
To me, and I believe others, too, your statement sounds as though
you believe that what and how you collect is the only right way and
everyone else is wrong. Perhaps you might try to post your opinions here a little bit differently.
All types of collecting involves "made up collectibles" even yours.
Someone had to "make up" the idea to collect whatever any of us collect.
We weren't born doing it, nor were humans doing it when we first stood up on
two feet and walked out of Africa.

 

It's all so confusing to my simple mind. That said, I'll probably buy a set anyway. I seem to buy everything else they come out with.
