Although never an avid coin collector, I've been lurking on this board for around a month now. I've read through 2/3 of the what's it worth threads (the ones that sounded interesting). I've also spent a lot of time researching ancient coins, particularly cleaning uncleaned ones. I have made a few posts there and have my first lot on the way. I hope to be more active on here once I'm actually doing something with coins. At the risk of seeming a hopeless shill, I just wanted to say that I am very happy I found this board. Is it bad if I feel I "know" some of the characters on here better than most of my acquaintances in real life (after my family, a few friends, a couple coworkers, etc.) I know GDMJP (sp) is going to pop up and say something that pretty much summarizes the discussion and for all intents and purposes could end it. Coinman964 (sp) is going to say the coin probably looks cleaned or faulty and value it at 30% less than everyone else. Hobo, well, we know what Hobo will have to say. And we all know what Redwin will contribute as well This has brought me a lot of joy and I think it is great that there are people out there who, while the majority of them are in numismatics because they love it, are willing to share their expertise and encourage others who are possibly new, while at the same time giving realistic advice. OK that was all. Thanks again everyone. Now I'm going to go back to perusing BNBanalytics posted threads. I had to take a break because laughing uncontrollably in my cube would probably be frowned upon. Thanks, Geoff
Unofficial Results After much consideration and careful analysis of this thread, I feel that it is worthy of an MS65....no plus(+).....no star(*). Chris
Well we welcome you here as well sir. This is what CT is about, sharing knowledge and laughs. I feel the same way about many members here.
Yup. Lots of zany folks. Lots of knowledgeable folks. Lots of zany knowledgeable folks. And a few sticks in the mud......
You don't have to worry about being more involved in coins to join in the conversation. Many here no longer even collect. Hope to hear more from you. Guy
Welcome. I associate more here on this site than I do in person myself. I don't think that is a bad thing, is it? Anyway, I have fun here commenting and posting pics. I hope you will too!
Hi Geoff, welcome to CoinTalk. I got a chuckle out of your post...right on the money! It is interesting to me to see personalities coming out of all the posts..almost like talking in person. Again, welcome. Lucy
But, if it has been improperly cleaned by a professional, that's okay. Thank our lucky stars they don't use erasers! Chris
Why does this remind me of that thread where your great great great great great niece gave you a huge collection of coins Chris?
I'm with you there, I know more about some of these schlubs than I do some of my "physical" friends. Especially that guy Green
LG, thanks for reminding me about that old thread. I decided to bring it back so some of the newer members could get a few laughs. Chris
I post on several boards but I find myself still favoring this one over the others. It has a much closer family feel to it. I just wish the ancient talk was more active.
Geoff, If you think BNB is a laugh riot search for: jazzcoins You'll hear an audible gasp from the membership. Don't worry, he's not a member anymore. Soylent
