If given a choice of one or the other, which would you prefer to collect, the Standing Liberty quarter or the Barber quarter?
Yea, the standing liberty is one of the most beautiful coins in the Mints history. Higher grade Barbers look nice, just not as nice as the Liberty. JMO
I love love love Barbers...but much moreso the half than the quarter. In this battle I'm going for the Standing Lib!
I don't like the Standard Liberty design. It looks like Lady Liberty caught level 1-2 of the Super Mario Bros. game.
SLQs are a nice design; not my favorite, but probably my favorite quarter. (The competition doesn't amount to much, except for the very early designs, which are out of my range.) I just can't seem to get into Barber quarters -- one nearly unobtainable, two other major keys that are too rich for my blood, two minor semi-keys, and all the rest more or less common. The SLQ, although a short set, has an interesting range of availabilities.
I vote for the SLQ. I think the design is unique for a US coin. I have yet to find a complete shield (without paying the BIG bucks) because the obv. wears due to protrusion. Eventhough I still vote for the SLQ.
I will have to stand with the Standing Liberty, I have been collecting them for a time. Most of what I have now, range from XF to MS65FH. I only need to upgrade 1921 and 1927s. The last one I do need is a 1923s. I feel that the 1916 and 1918s/1917 will just not be. Most of what I have are not slabbed. Most of the higher grades are slabbed. The Standing Liberty are some of the hardest one to find with full shield rivets and full heads.
