Aww, can't give me a low AU? Meanie!
Compared to my other ones, it's an MS67.

 

It's real close Greg, at the very least a 45. With the contact marks and high wear on the hair, it will be close. If it were sent to grading and received an AU50+, I wouldn't be surprised. Could be worse, could be that 900 lb. white elephant in the room lol.

 

Thanks for clearing that up Brian, that's what happens when you only have one side to the story.

 

Dang! I did it again!



With this one, the seller sent me a Jefferson Oath Dollar instead of the Washington. I contacted the seller who then sent me the Washington along with a pre-paid return envelope.

I shoulda been paying attention because I needed that Jefferson but after 3 days of no reply to an additional inquiry, I had to send it back.

 

Ive received a few new items yesterday and today. I dont have any pictures yet, but I will try and post some soon.

Also received some nice coins from my Grandfather yesterday. He 'sold' me a complete Franklin set in at least AU condition (maybe 2 EFs, but i think they would all grade AU) for the spot price of silver @ $407, and he also threw in a nice bonus for me; A complete set of BU war nickels with some rocking toning on about 5 of the coins.

I love doing business with Pop, even though he makes me pay for some stuff he always throws extras my way and always gives me a fair deal. For example, he and I both know that set of Frankies is worth more than $400, but he wanted me to have it, so he sold it to me cheap, plus he gave me 2 ASEs and that set of war Nickels all during the same transaction. Gotta love having good grandparents! Boy am I forever grateful for him and my dad raising me around coinage and teaching me about collecting, I cant wait to build upon both of their collections oneday when im old and get to reflect back on all the things we were able to do together.

That was a great price for that large cent, nice purchase! I wish I could take the blame for that inclination to purchase. I give it a very high XF, possibly AU, except I am unsure whether LIBERTY has wear or if it is weak strike.

My grandfather has been my biggest inspiration for collecting coins. For 20 years now he has given me different items of differing values. Now that im in my mid 20s and he is approaching 80 it seems he tends to give me some better stuff. I hate to say it, but it almost feels like hes in the process of passing his stuff on to me in case something were to happen to him. My father and I are the only other people in our family who collects coins, and I really take the time to connect with my grandfather and seek his advice before I make purchases or to show him what I recently acquired. Hes been the best grandfather anyone could ever ask for and I truly cherish every moment I get to spend with him and am so thankful that he inspired me to pick-up such an amazing hobby.

 

That is great! It is cool you retained your interest in coins through your teen years. It looks like you are on your way to a very healthy and productive numismatic pursuit. Also, you are fortunate that you also have your father who collects coins. It is great to have a hobby in common with a parent.

I absolutely love ancient silver. Its an area I havent done much research in or anything like that, but theres just something about those pieces that draws me to them. Ive looked at picking up a silver denarius or something like that just to have in my collection, but I have yet to find that piece that I cant live without. Just searching for the right coin at the right price--------a sentiment I am sure most on this site share--------waiting for that perfect coin at the perfect time

 

I do not think I ever would have gotten into ancients if I didn't come to this site. In fact Mat helped me acquire my first ancient which was a silver.

 

I wasnt very active with my collecting through my college years, usually I would just tuck away anything that was given to me and just forget about it. With the exception of my biggest coin collecting mistake-----I sold all my large silver (bars) for spending money when silver was about $20 per ounce, probably 30 ounces or so...YIKES!

Yeah me and my father have a very good relationship and share alot of things with each other. We operate a family seafood market and restaurant and so we are always together and working on new projects. I have been extremely fortunate to have a family that loves and cares about me and I get to spend time with them everyday without much fussing or arguing between us.

 

Your story keeps getting more fascinating with each post.
