Ok guys haven't seen a thread of this type yet so I'll start it here. In my case my grandfather, always carried a silver dollar in his pocket that he would flip through his fingers like in the old gangster movies. His reasoning was that as long as he had a silver dollar in his pocket he always had a meal/ride home if he needed one. (my brother has this coin now) Well when i joined the service I took his advice to heart and have always carried a silver dollar of some type in my pocket and yes, it has saved my butt more then once. So what do you guys carry and why? I know I am not the only coin abuser out there My present pocket piece and probably a one of a kind "circulated" 2001 ASE
I never thought I would have an opportunity to share this every-day carry, but here you are. In the pocket with two folding knives and a comb each day for maybe five years. Don't recall where found, or what I might have given for it then. This is a good idea for a thread, and thanks! Let's see what else gets disclosed, and by whom.
Maybe I will carry both. But the last time my wife carried an ASE with her, about 10 years ago, she was robbed.
OK here's mine. I like to flip it and it has the scars to prove it. I bought this one for melt (and a Peace same day) from the coin store. It's so shiny it looks like a polisher was taken to it.
Mine is a bit more convenient, I was in a pawn shop buying up a pile of Barber quarters at a bit less than spot when I spied this piece in the "to send to the smelter" pile and bought it so it now resides on my keychain. I like it because it is dated 1884 and one of my great grandmothers was born in that year.
My grandpa carried a dollar in a vest pocket which deflected a stray bullet while deer hunting in Michigan maybe 60 years ago.
YEP! Bright always...and folks really notice it, if the sun is shining (Rare, here). I wouldn't flip this, even if just to catch it...those fresh rim dings catch threads in my (Levi 501) pocket, an' wear 'em out quicker! That '96 Victorian Penny is Sweet!
THAT would be a treasure worth having! Do you, or someone else in the family? If so, how 'bout a couple pics?
Over the years there have been a lot of threads on this subject. Here are just a few of them - http://www.cointalk.com/t193554/ http://www.cointalk.com/t208315/ http://www.cointalk.com/t68788/
I always think about this but I just don't want to lose my coin. I have a 1922 Peace Dollar that I like a lot which I would like to have on me, I just wouldn't want to drop it somewhere.
