The worst president ever? James Buchanan, now that would be something!!

Or maybe the fractional proof gold eagles? those have been on the decline for a couple years i think...

I'm thinking about the gimmick of the year-the circulation strike "S" quarters. Those mintages are bound to be on the lower side.

I am hoping it turns out to be the 2012 Star Spangled Banner Proof coin. So far it's gotten a ho hum no big deal response, but I am hoping something turns around. I heard the $5 gold sold under the same name is doing fairly well but I don't understand why they didn't use the same design that was on the Proof on the $5 gold, seemed strange to me.

I really want the 5oz Hawaii and Acadia coins.

I bet some people here are really hoping the uncirculated Star Spangled Banner takes off in 5-10 years. I'd really like one of those as well, but that probably won't happen either.

I'm surprised the Star Spangled Banner commems aren't bigger sellers. Both the silver and gold ones have great designs. I love how the stars are basically holes in the devices so that on the proof, the field is frosted and the stars are mirrored (applies to the silver, not the gold). Makes for a great effect.

To be honest the last commem I remember being a hot seller right out of the gate were the Franklins back in 2006 (Marine Corps the year before sold fast too). Not sure if it's the economy or just lower interest in the specific designs, but ones since then have been available basically the whole year they were out (think Lincoln in 2009 eventually sold out, but not until the year was almost over anyway). Some of 2007's I can still see for sale in the Mint gift shop.

:thumb:Wow a lot great picks!!! 2011 5 Dollar Gold Commemorative one of the lowest mintage US coins of 2011.

Is any one getting the SP set that comes out 11/27/2012???

I Placed my bet on the "S" ATB quarters to the tune of 1 bag (100) each. Maybe I blew $175 dollars on em but as they are already selling on e-bay at an average of 3-4 dollars each at moment, I don't think i took too much of a risk.

Does anyone else think it's BS that the mint still sells last years coins? I do realize that they have inventory but I think they should stop selling a 2011 dated coin in 2011. Or at least give a one month deadline on the later issued coins. I'm sure it's not cheap to mint, package, store, then if not sold, pull from storage, dissasemble packaging, seperate and re-melt their products. But thats what they have to do to unsold items. I guess it would be cheaper for them to just sell leftovers at cost. But to continue minting last years products this year just seams wrong!

I have yet to get the 2012 W Proof. The mint site says they're sold out. Guess it's time to search ebay.

There's a $5 Star Spangled Banner Gold Coin pic placed by McBlzr up above. It's not the same as the Silver Proof and I was wondering why it isn't the same.

I would say most of them are. That is the effect they had on me anyway.

The designs on the silver dollar coin and the 5 dollar piece (in the modern commemorative series) have always been different Fret.

Well maybe so but if they would have minted a gold coin out of the Proof design I think they would have sold more. Live and learn that's all I do on here. :D
