Honestly will they go back to the vault to get boxes of rolls for you to inspect to see if they are new? I have done this for years and I would be amazed if they do.
Depends on the bank. I've met some bankers that have as much or more interest in coin collecting as I do and are happy to help me find anything interesting, so long as it doesn't reasonably take them away from other duties. One bank was happy to order $500 boxes of halves for me to look through, and didn't even require me to buy the whole thing at once.
America the Beautiful quarters are going to be difficult to come by. They are not being distributed by special order through your bank and the Federal Reserve System like the State quarters were in the past. In addition, the series began as the economy turned recessionary therefore, mintages are much lower for all denominations, including quarters, are a fraction of pre-2009 levels. It was already difficult finding territorial/DC quarters in 2009 and the 2010-12 ATBs are proving even less likely to be encountered. I know that whenever I find an ATB quarter in circulation, I keep it.
Not the best pics, but here's my ATB Dansco quarter album. Almost complete for the first three years.
you are right about banks not being social towards coin collectors, but some of the tellers if they know you will work with you.i know them and they know me and will even put coins up for you or call you.i have found having accounts at more then one bank also seems to help.
I've come across many ATB quarters in my change, I've even found one in my change that has a colorized reverse from one of those coin swindling companies.
Was about to ask that... in 2012 San Francisco started minting clad business strikes of these (all the clad-S's are sold directly to collectors by the Mint). I'm just collecting one per design of the business strikes; incidentally, since I get a clad proof set every year, I'll also have one clad proof of each. That's enough for me.
You all are right about the people's attitudes at the banks. It all depends on which bank. Some people are just rude, that's how they are, LOL. A few months ago I was looking for the large Ike dollars, and called several banks. I finally found one bank that had them. They were so excited to give them to me that they had them ready waiting on me. The woman said that they could not ship them back for whatever reason, but she did ask me if I planned on returning them. I told her no, and kept a few for coin swaps and spent the rest. (Got a few weird looks at the places I spent them.) I have a very hard time finding half dollars here, and to even get $15 worth, I have to travel to all banks in a 20 mile radius. I have never gotten a complete roll from any bank here, they always only have loose ones, if any. Only once have I been able to get a Presidential dollar roll, and even it was a few years old already.
I plan to add a separate page for the 2012 S Business strikes. Right now, they are still in their rolls waiting to be added. Shame they started them 3 years into the program. The quarter books are going to look a bit odd.
I actually received not 1, but 2 S mint Hawaii's from a coffee vending machine, I was happy just to see 2 ATB's, but then upon further inspection, they both had S mint marks...I wonder what path they took to get into a vending machine as these are very rare and just started this year and thought they were not being circulated, just sold to dealers, collectors, etc through rolls and bags. Someone must have bought these that way or from a coin shop and somehow misplaced them into their regular change and onward they went. They will now stay with me for good, since I hold onto any ATB's that I come across in loose change. LOL...Maybe I can sell them to Mike Mesak from HSN and he can colorize them and slap them in a red oak presentation box...hahahaha!!!
I have put S mint circulation quality NP quarters into circulation. They have always been the coins at the ends of the rolls that were damaged by the rolling machine.
Sign me up for the club of those who haven't seen a single one in circulation. One ones I've ever seen have been in my annual proof sets I receive as a gift each year, and the one I just got in that giveaway last week from PCGS....
Spoke too soon... found my first national park quarter in circulation today, in a roll of quarters I got from the bank for the sake of doing laundry. 2011-D Glacier (Montana).
Well you and I are tied now at one each. I found a 2010 P Hot Springs about four months ago. So we're at one each but I found mine first.
Actually I just pulled ahead of you lol... out of curiosity I searched the unopened roll I still had left over and found an Olympic (Washington state) quarter and a Gettysburg (Pennsylvania) quarter (both 2011-D). So they're out there... I don't think they're so much rare as they're buried under the billions of older quarters still in circulation. I'm not sure what they do at Philadelphia, but the Denver Mint's gift shop has a machine that dispenses the newest National Park quarter (they did this for the state quarter series and DC/territories too); I think some people end up spending their extras and this is probably where most of them actually came from. Currently the Federal Reserve is getting more quarters back from banks than the number they're asking for so it makes sense the ATB quarters are relatively rare in circulation atm. Besides these 3 ATB quarters the most recent quarter I've personally seen is a 2009 American Samoa quarter, but I'm not the best sample lol as I spend cash quite rarely. (I work in what's technically a retail location right now but we take in very little cash; most of our customers pay by house credit.) Quarters circulate more thoroughly than pennies do (they mint more pennies, but quarters get actually USED more often) so you should see them more often, eventually.
Does anyone know of a place to get a good deal on a set of 2010 5 oz ATB's? Ive seen the set from $949-$1299........the 949 would be great if anyone knows where i can find a decent priced set! thanks in advance for any help-
