Years ago on of these high end companies like Franklin Mint or somebody else minted copies of the $50 gold PPIE coin in .999 silver. Anyone know which company it was? This coin is fairly rare as I've never come across another of course more collectors feel like it ain't worth didley squat because it's only an ounce of silver. Normally I would agree but not with this silver round, it's even got a serial number on the edge which makes me think there weren't too many minted. Anyone know who minted these? :thumb:

Well don't know it's rarity but even if it's unique I can tell you its value is exactly what one ounce of silver is worth. Serial numbers don't really mean anything on silver rounds like this; the company that made it can always make more (sometimes they try to exaggerate the rarity by starting over after a small set of serial numbers).

Not sure who made this; some internet searching found several people selling it but wasn't able to find the original manufacturer.

Fairly decent replica as far as replicas go. Would have looked better in uncirculated than proof I think though.

As for value, sorry, it's worth as much as the silver it contains, nothing more.

Wow! Just found one on ebay (.999 silver, octagon shaped w/ serial) for $1,235! What am I missing?

That either the seller is dumb enough to think it's worth that, or he hopes some buyer is.

Found a REAL one on eBay for a decent amount of change. Too bad it has "altered surfaces" but PCGS still gave it an UNC details grade. Beyond my means sadly lol...
