Educational Series notes of 1896 - info needed

I was curious as to who originally printed the Educational Series notes? Was it the BEP way back in 1896 or someone else?

Second, I'd love to have these images framed on my wall, but I'll never be able to afford them. Very nice copies would be fine, but I can't seem to find any, and I don't want one that the word COPY or REPRODUCTION on it or has fold lines or something. Printing something off the Internet is iffy at best, since images tend to pixelate and lose their high-quality image. Ideally I'd like to find uncirculated images, 50% above the original size. Does anyone know of a source for such images - if they exist?

Printed by the BEP and you should look at souvenir cards printed from the original dies and are the same size. Very affordable and look like the real thing. Perfect for framing.

I did look at BEP's website, but saw no mention of them. I looked at some on eBay, but they definitely have that photocopy-look to them. They also have neither serial numbers nor a Federal seal on them, which makes them not look like real money. I'll have to pass on them.

Did someone say... framed on my wall?

You knew I had to do that.

Tricon - as Darryl said, the souvenir cards look great and are affordable. But if you don't mind keeping your grading standards realistic, you can get a VG set of educationals for less than $1k. It will take time and patience, but it can be done. $1k is alot of money, but if it's something you will hang on your wall and enjoy for the rest of your life, it is worth it. Ask me how I know...

One advantage of buying the BEP reprints is that you can also get the ones that were proposed but never released because the series was cancelled due to the good ladies of Boston:

    Nice. Grrr!

It looks like you have the real deal in your frame? Since I'm willing to spend a lot of time finding exactly what I want and for it to look good, I'm kind of being picky. I want something akin to uncirculated images, hence I'm willing to get copies - not the real bills. And I want it to be images of real bills, not proposed bills that never made it to circulation. That rules out the proposed $10 bills that were kindly suggested, as well as the souvenir cards that don't have serial numbers or seals.

I do have another idea on how to get near-perfect images of real notes for maybe $50 apiece. Kind of expensive for copies, but if they're gem-uncirculated, I think they would look fantastic framed on my wall. Gonna keep the idea under my hat until/if I get final work on it. ;>)

This is more like what I'm looking for. However, they're only 75% of the original size, meaning all the details are lost. I have contacted the seller to see if larger images could be made from them. We'll see.

Haven't I read that these Educational Series notes have been de-monetized - thus the laws pertaining to reproducing them at 50% greater than/less than the originals are no longer valid?

I think the size limits on the replicas are Ebay policy based on the seller's comments, probably to avoid counterfeits:

Sorry but Ebay states that replica currency must be printed on seperate sheets((OR))75% of the authentic or 150% of the authentic.

Does it have to be both or could it just be one-sided at original size?

I have thought about just taking some images and printing them myself. You can probably adjust the size you want to print and mount it on a poster board.

The way I read it, it has to be both.

If anyone wants some souvenir cards just email me and tell me what you need. I'm selling a bunch of them. If I knew how to take photos of them I would but I can't.

There is a very cool story that is associated with this Series of notes...how they were designed, modified and approved.
Might I suggest Gene Hessler's Book's as a research tool. The Engravers Line, The Comprhensive Catalog of US Paper Money, US Essay, Proof and Specimen Notes has some wonderful info on how these came about.
