Im wondering how much you guys think this is worth. I don't know how many are in the roll. But they have never been opened. alli know is they are 1992 Silver dollars.
How is that possible since the Mint produced no silver dollars after 1976, and no metal dollars of any composition between 1981 and 1998?
Of course you're right, but if that's what he's talking about it's the first time I ever heard ASEs referred to as "US Dollars".
Apathy, my friend, and it also has zero to do with roll searching. Also, I'd think an older roll like that may have some premium attached for being unopened. But I have no clue, so I sent him to the experts.
Yeah, the bullion forum is the place to go. But I took a look on eBay, and while there were no unopened 1992 rolls sold recently, two 1999 rolls sold recently for about $800 each.
Thanks all for the responses. Im sorry if i posted in wrong forum. Im new to the scene kinda. Next time i will post it in bullion forum. Ill take a pic and post it when i get a chance.
Er, for circulation no, but in 1992 they produced commemorative silver dollars for the Olympics, the White House, and Christopher Columbus. Plus there's the American Silver Eagle which is technically a silver dollar in the sense that it's made out of silver and has a face value of one dollar. I think the OP is referring to the ASEs as I've never seen anyone roll commemoratives (though some box/roll searchers have found commem. halves in their half searching). The mint never rolled ASEs officially, but the business strikes that were distributed to third-party dealers were sometimes rolled privately, 20 to a roll (most preferred plastic tubes though, also 20 to a tube). At bare minimum a roll would be worth $700 just for the silver alone. Something like this could never be "unopened" so opening it up to see what you find can't hurt; there may be some nice ones in there. At bare minimum it's at least worth what 20 ounces of silver is worth. P.S. Don't believe any eBay auctions for so-called "unopened" rolls of ASEs. The Mint never rolled these, so if they're in rolls they were done so privately. Meaning they can't truly be "unopened" in the sense that nobody looked at them since the coins left the Mint.
Yes your right. There not "Rolls". Its a plastic case. When my father received it he never opened it. Put tape around the lid when he received them. They were the nicest thing he had ever had before I think. I was told they were 1992. If I open them and handled with gloves would that make them loose value? if not. would it be a good idea to do even trades for other years? keep (1) 1992 and trade the other (19) for older years? Should I send them to PCGS or another to get them sealed?
Leave 'em sealed. Well, that's what I would do. However, if you do decide to remove the coins from the plastic tube, be very careful because the earlier tubes were so tight around the coins that there is virtually no movement at all. Resist the temptation to turn the tube upside down and strike it against something hard to dislodge the coins. This will only result in damage to your coins. I have taken a very sharp exacto knife and run it along the side (carefully) carving a slit which eventually will open the tube side and you can carefully part the two halfs.
