Has anyone ever thought of making their own coin cabinet to store their coins? Anyone like playing the stock market, but instead of playing stocks invest that money in coins instead? Do you have another hobby other than numismatics that you enjoy in conjunction with numismatics?

Do you enjoy travelling and pick travel destinations based on where the coins will be?

Are you a gambler and, instead of going to Vegas, prefer gambling on the price of obscure/non-obscure coins?

Do you like fishing and primarily collect fish themed coins?

Are you a wheeler dealer and, instead of dealing in cars or commodities, you wheel and deal coins?

The list could go on . . . . Please share any stories. Thanks.

I played pool for 55 years. It wasn't a gamble. It was a sure thing.

I combine love of history and study of history and more obscure places with my collecting. I seriously doubt I would know very much about the Sasanian Persians if I didn't collect coins, let alone Hepthalites/Chionites, Kidariate, Sogdians, Chinese dynasties, Yueh Chi, Axumite, Bactrians, etc. Collecting ancient coins has greatly expanded my historical knowledge, since nothing is more exciting than reading about a ruler/time frame/civilization from which you own a tangible piece of.

I like woodworking and have made several coin cases and cabinets. even sold a few. also fishing but it doesn't carry over to my coin collecting like the woodwork does.

My own shame is in model build building (metal fabrication not those plastic things) I have 1 stirling motor with 2 state quarters as endcaps for the radiator, Dimes used as balence weights on the flywheel, copper penny....halves... as a heat sink. the whole theme of the model is coins. Once I actualy get it running will probably post a video of it. Please note only already damaged "common" coins were harmed in its construction.
but I have to admit pocket change does often make its way into my models... Not a real good combination but fun :D

I have a Luis Royo poster that makes me think of silver
dollars whenever I look at it.

I don't know if they still do it or not but PCGS used
to have a fantasy coin trading/investing contest.

Although not very good, I would say I enjoy the hobby of Photography. I enjoy macro imaging my coins and am always trying to improve my technique.

I have blended a hobby of digital photography with a renewed interest in coin collecting.

My other hobbies -- golf and fishing -- haven't really been affected one way or the other.

I don't think me coin collecting really meshes well with my other hobbies. Well, maybe travel, but I never travel somewhere because of coins. I did just happen to be in Philly this August for the ANA show, but I was going to be there anyways for a wedding. But, I do stop into coin shops on my travels.
