I need to know what is a good grading company to send some old coins to.??? I am going to brake down and send them. I just have 5, 1861 dollar, 1871-cc half, 1855-s half, 1861 kalf and a 1911-d 2 1/2 gold cons.
PCGS or NGC are the best outfits to use but you need to be a member in order to submit coins to them. You could ask a local coin shop if they could submit the coins for you. Most shops submit coins to one or the other or both......
In my opinion, going anywhere other than PCGS or NGC is a mighty mistake that you will regret later on when you have more knowledge.
I'm with Green, go visit your local shop and at least get their opinion on them. That 11d is faked a lot and it along with the others might not be worth submitting at all.
i actually just signed up for ngc 125 bucks plus 5 free gradings. i figured might as well do that instead of paying my local dealer 45 per coin. i think pcgs is 135 and 4 free gradings
i signed up so i can get one coin ive been wanting to get graded for a long time then found 4 others. just waiting for the coupon to come in
My NGC membership renews each November, and I hang on the the grading certificate until the FUN Show in January so I can save about $25 in shipping to NGC. Chris
i just moved to south carolina from florida. i am thinking about making the trip back home for it but the couple hundred bucks i would spend on gas could be a very nice coin
The couple hundred bucks could be worth a very good time. I'm planning on being there in January........
The 1911 d is a key date, does it have a weak mintmark? if so, it is worth less than a bolder mintmark. please post some picks.
Go with NGC or PCGS. If I had to choose I would use NGC, because I think they grade better, and their holders have more eye appeal than those ugly plastic blobs.
ANACS is the cheapest way to go among the TPGs that are still reasonably respected, and they don't require a membership. Would be my suggestion. If you really want to go with PCGS or NGC you'd either have to become a member or find a member that would submit them for you (some reputable coin dealers will do this for you for a reasonable fee).
No it don't have a weak minmark , it is the very strong one . I had one man say that the coin was cleaned , but had others say that is has not been cleaned. To me looks like a AU coin??? I thank people say cleaned to lower the value of the coin.
I don't believe NGC requires a membership, either. One must be a member of the ANA and then may submit directly, if I recall correctly. Regarding ANACS, I would state that they have lost nearly all market support.
That's really surprising to read. NGC has generally an excellent reputation for customer service. Perhaps anything mailed to you might have been lost in the mail? Below is a link for you to follow if you would like a phone number for customer service at NGC- http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/Submission-Instructions.aspx
I completely agree with this. I know that a lot of people rave about ANACS...but ANACS is not the grading company they once were. IMHO, PCGS and NGC are the only companies worth dealing with.
