Here is a coin that IS graded. Its a 1900-O MS65PL from NGC in the old SOAP slab. There are hairline scratches/die polish lines on the obverse and reverse of the coin (stronger on the reverse).
I was just hoping for your input and what you think they might be: scratches / Die polish ???

Are they just in the fields? Since it is already in an NGC MS65PL holder I think we can safely assume they are die polish, but if they are just in the fields and stop before going up onto the raised design then that is good evidence for die polish, too.

Yes, they are just in the fields, except I usually see die polish lines go in one direction, and the ones on this coin go all over the place...

PL's usually are covered with die polish. Are they raised or incuse?

    Hopefully they are raised.

If raised, then die polish, incuse, then scratches. Hard to tell from the pics.

I'll echo Tom. If it's in the holder (and graded what it is) they are more than likely die polish marks. Look at the marks on my Maine Centennial. This issue is notorious for die polishing marks.......

The Maine commem is an excellent choice to show this effect. Look at the reverse, just inside the wreath, from 10:00 to 11:00 and you will see the area smothered in die polish.

I still have a lot to learn, but I feel like I know a decent amount for being a YN.
