ok, i just began coin collecting. I ain't doing it for the copper or the silver but i love unusual and rare pennies. I tried to get into the whole silver rave but it holds little value to my interest. I have been going threw a box of pennies since last evening and seperating all pre-1990 and '98,'99,'2000 along with 1997 pennies fro the rest. How should i go threw the rest? how should i catagorize them in rolls? Im in penny heaven and I'm loving it. but help is needed pls, ty.
If you are just in it for unusual and rare pennies, I don't think you need much organization. You can put the 'keepers' in flips, label them and keep them in date order in boxes made for holding flips. That will keep them protected and make them easy to find when needed. If by 'unusual', you a referring to error coins, you could use one box for error coins, one for uncirculated or above grades and one for rare coins. Your method of building your collection will also affect how much organization you need. Finding unusual and rare coins by coin rolling is a slow and tedious process which moves slowly. Buying coins from dealers and individuals etc. is much quicker but is expensive.
