How come almost 75% of my coin shipments have 2-3 packing peanuts in the envelope?

They are not affixed to protect the coin in any way.

The envelope is already a bubble envelope.

Any reason for this? An overflow of peanuts, so they toss a few in to get rid of them?

Lazy I suppose? I hate foam peanuts and never use them. They stick to everything.

I will assume that the packages have coins inside, Myself & other dealers have had customers call & complain about postage due because of a package not being thick enough for the 1st class standard size. The post office has an actual rule for packages that are not letters that still ship 1st class. Some Post offices enforce it & some do not. The peanuts give that yellow bubble mailer the girth it needs to fall under the correct government specs.I dont recall what the actual spec is but my Postmaster told me that if I throw a few of the peanuts in I wont have a problem. Pretty sure that why for the most part.

Since regular postage ( such as small flat envelopes), less thick than the post office's magic slot they measure with, can't have a Delivery confirmation, I put some bubble wrap into the envelop to nake it thick enough to go as a parcel for a DC.

Some one sent me an envelope with a DC ( P.O. said it was self attached), but was flat, so the PO added postage due to the level of Certified and charged for the DC.

They are placed inside the envelopes to make certain that the envelope is too thick to go through the automated sorting machines that the post office uses. If the envelope were to go through the automated sorting machine then there is a greater likelihood that the coin would get bent or otherwise damaged.

My sock monkey loves foam peanuts but I can't give him too many because he's stuffed.

Are you saying the #000 bubble envelopes have to be a certain thickness? Not thick enough? Can you elaborate? I always use the "small Package" postage and have never had a problem, that I know of.

They can't be a '' large envelope'' size and get dc, so they have to be think enough to go first class

Your local UPSP office has a template to test the thickness of the package before shipping. Your package must be over 3/4" to get the first class package rate along with Delivery Confirmation. Just read the USPS mailing info.

Yes, & I also never had a problem until about 3 years ago & then It happened 3 times in a month .I use 1st class small package as well. Ever since then I do the peanut thing too and have not had a probelm but have heard other dealers running into the issue since. I really had no idea that there was a rule but there is ,just depends on how much your government postal worker cares to enforce it.
