Would NCS remove the "toning" on something like this ?

It got a CAC bean too !

I don't like cleaning coins and I like most toning but not this toning !

I agree. Not comely as most, but still, somewhat lovely? I don't know. Eye of the beholder......

I like the coin. Russet toning is very common and usually much more attractive in hand than in photos. I bet this coin looks dynamite in hand with unquestionable originality. Based on the PCGS photo, the luster and surfaces are outstanding, hence the assigned grade.

Some people may like that light to dark poopy brown toning. Me, I would prefer blue, red, pink, yellow, lavender, purple, or a combination myself.

I think it's ugly as sin. If it was free, I would not take it.

Yup, someone would have to pay me to take that coin.

I'll bet the coin has some great color if tilted to the light but we can't see that in the images. If I were selling this coin, I would have several images. I'm not sure if I like the coin or not.

I agree, and don't like blast white coins either. I have always like pretty toning, but on CT is known as a "hater" of toning simply because I dsagree with today's prices for it.

However, this thing looks more on the "corroded" side than the "pretty toning" side of the aisle. I agree 100% with SQG that these kinds of coins were routinely dipped in the past.

At least you can reasonable assume it's never been dipped.

Very true. I love the surfaces, I am just sad at the storage conditions that led to what I view as unattractive toning. If stored properly this would have been the centerpiece of almost any Washington collection.

That's a bit harsh. But knowing you (as little as I do), I believe you when you say you would not take it even if it were given to you.

I like the toning it's quite nice in color looks to be iodine red, also the PCGS photos are much better compared to the photos used for the auction listing.

I don't think it's very attractive either. The original surfaces, low (variety) mintage, lack of blemishes and grade make it a very desirable coin.

Ah yes, I've seen that one before and even though the toning is unique, it doesn't float my boat whatsoever. Personally I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it and I love toned coins. Maybe that quarter there is for the upper crust or the chosen few of the toned coin world. :D

It does absolutely nothing for me.

Ewww... I wouldn't even pay the face value of 25 cents for that coin, but maybe that's just me. I don't expect all silver coins to be blast white forever, but there is good toning and there is ugly toning, and that is ugly toning in my book. (I'm strongly anti-toning if you couldn't tell by my sig lol... but I'm willing to forgive light even toning and will even concede it can sometimes be attractive. But not in this case by a long shot.)
