Here's a couple photos of a 3 cent coin I bought tonight by just looking at photos of it. the date is repunched and appears that it may be doublestruck . I won't be able to tell until the coin get's here. folks look in front of miss Libertys face and other areas on the obverse side and tell me your opinions of it.
I knew some of the marks were clash marks like the one in front of the neck area. the unusal thing is that it appears that miss Libertys face profile is there in fromt of her face. this is not on the regular clashed coins. I'm now thinking it may be a counter clash and if it is it would be a really good coin. I have some really awesome counter clashed coins and they are scarce and hard to find. if we are correct about this the reverse die must have been swapped out for another die.
Sorry ,all I see is the wreath clash in front of her face. Do you have another pic you could post ? I'd like to see what youre seeing.
I see what your looking at Rascal, especially the second set of what looks like lips. Problem is, follow that up and you will see that what one could construe as a nose is far to high.. I am going to go with a reverse die clash on this one. At least thats what I see in these pictures.. nice clash I might add as well. Bedford look due west of the lips.. looks like another set of lips.. follow that clash north and you can see what looks like the remnants of a nose but there is far to much distance for that to be.. at least thats what I am seeing.
Jim a counter clash is always way out of line with the original design. I have some coins with counter clashes that appear to look like doubled dies because the letters are out of place from the normal ones. I have a nickel that has two O's at the end of monticello because of a counter clash .
you are correct and I also think that the area in front of the face is a counter clash of the face area unless the photo caused the extra face to be there. someone wanted to know what a counter clash was so I'm adding a link to one of my counter clash coins. these have been extremely elusive for me to find.the photos missed a lot on this coin. Jefferson's neck and coat collar is on the coin twice and the coat collars are seperated at least a quarter of a inch apart. look on the reverse side how far away the extra O from monticello is from the original O. this coin is my favorite counter clash coin.
