Many of us would like to see many classic designs of US coinage come back. I think that if everyone one of us here at CT made a petition, maybe we could get something done. What I would like to see is a "revival set". A set of coins, made from fine silver and other metals, that are of the old designs we had. A good set I would like to see is. Cent- Indian Head Nickel- V Nickel Dime- Seated Dime Quarter- Barber Quarter Half Dollar- Capped Bust Dollar- Morgan dollar. The entire set would be made in proof , and and all but the nickel and cent be made from fine silver. Of course all the coins would bear the year 2013, so people wouldn't pass them off as old. I think this would be a very good seller for the mint as it would allow many collectors to enjoy the beauty of old designs inexpensively.
Nice idea. I'd like to see: Cent- Indian Head Nickel- Buffalo Dime- Winged Liberty Quarter- Standing Liberty Half Dollar- Walking Liberty Dollar- Gold Dollar All coins, except the Gold Dollar, in .900 silver.
This first thing we would have to do is come to a consensus of which designs the coins would have. Personally I prefer: Cent- Flying Eagle Nickel- Shield Nickel Dime- Seated Dime Quarter- Standing Liberty Half Dollar- Capped Bust Dollar- Trade Dollar
Great ideas fellows. They put the reverse of the Morgan Dollar on the 2006 San Fran Old Mint commemorative and did a real nice job with it. Also with the $5 gold with the eagle reverse. Would't mind a bit if they did some restrikes. Wonder if they have any of those old dies lyin' around in a warehouse somewhere.........
Cent- Indian Head Nickel- Buffalo Dime- Mercury Quarter- Standing Liberty Half Dollar- Walking Liberty Dollar- Draped Bust
Wanna see me make this even more complicated? Half cent: Draped bust Large cent: Liberty cap Small cent: Flying Eagle Two cent: Large motto 3 cent silver: type 2 3 cent nickel: are there multiple varieties? half dime: 1792 nickel: buffalo dime: seated 20 cent: seated quarter: barber half: capped bust dollar: morgan However, I would ventrue to say they could maximize sales by having an example of each major type of each denomination before 1900 or 1930. Like a capped, seated, barber, merc dime. but maybe that would put it past the budget of a lot of people. but at least hopefully theyt would have some relief to them and be silver.
I would love to see the entire US type set restruck in their natural metals. They should carry a date that would have originally been on the coin, but have edge printing of the current date. I would wait in line for that one.
How so? The blaggarts are doing it anyway.....Something in OGP with a certificate of authenticity would be most marvelous indeed.
i like the idea maybe they could do something like they did with the quarters and just release certain types each year.it may be very popular and if they did do it this way they could also do the same with gold by including some of the california and other state types for the guys who would like gold.just a thought.
I like the idea of creating a set like this, but with todays date. It just seems more natural and unique that way. I never was a fan of 100% undetectable restrikes.
