Please consider posting the seller's ID in this thread (assuming it's OK with Peter and the moderators). If posting is not OK, I'd welcome a PM with the seller's ID. Thanks!
There are some disgusting people out there... best of luck getting your money back, or at least revenge.
Just as a point of interest. When the mob ran the numbers you actually got a better deal than today. The winning 3 digit number was random from a yet to be published source that was available to everyone. The rake was as little as 20% depending on who was running it in your area. The state rakes a whopping 50%
All the details are super mushy, the type face used for the date is incorrect and the style of the mintmark is wrong.
If you don't require authentic coins, you might as well "complete your series" with a free digital image.
No, it wouldn't. You'd have a replica which is not an authentic coin. As stated, stick a picture in it's place. It would serve the same purpose.
If these are the best picture the Seller was willing to provide, I would be cautious! Below is a picture from libertynickel.net and... 1. The space between the bust and the first one (1) in the date, 2. The date font, both one (1) and two (2), and 3. The boldness of the "s", compared to the surrounding strike/wear... ...don't seem right. EDIT: I see that you also posted this pictures...did you take these pictures? Is this a TPG graded coin or is it in an Air-Tite? This coin appears differently than the one pictured in the original post.
Again, I think it's better to open a "not as described" case with eBay, identifying the coin(s) as counterfeit. The best outcome would be one where the buyer is made whole, and the guy trying to pass counterfeits does not get the "coins" back so he can try again elsewhere. If word gets around that you'll lose your money and your contraband when trying to sell it on eBay, maybe, just maybe, it'll make people a little more reluctant to list it there.
It would be fun if you could counterstamp the word "copy" big and bold on the obverse of the coin then send it back.
Hey everyone thanks for all the help. eBay and PayPal have refunded my money and I still have the coins. The seller said they want them back so they can send them to PCGS(chuckle). Needless to say no one will get these coins from this seller. I'm going to use this to teach myself the difference between real and fake V Nickels. Thanks again guys.
BigTee44 I looked at some of the sellers other previous sales and thought those coins looked really bad with the greenish yellow pics
