This is what I believe to be a Japanese coin. I do not speak or know Japanese so I need a little help with this one. I was just wondering what the date might be, the condition it is in, and the approximate value of the coin. Thanks -Kyle

Well, this one is actually from Kiangsu Province not Chihli. Here is my identification: Y# 10n (plain edge) or 10n.1 (reeded edge) Tai Ching Tung Pi 1906 HU PU From Kiangsu Province not Chihli You can find the SU (蘇) in Chinese character in the obverse centre. It is very small and sometimes neglected. But this character is the mint mark of the province. You can find a CHIH (直) from similar Chihli coins. There are many such coins from several provinces and they are quite similar. The only differece is the very small character in the obverse centre. Hope this will help. Assur
and to my understanding in a MS62 (which mine isn't even close to) it can get up to $2,000? What might mine grade, and what king of value might it have?
Values for early modern Chinese are even more condition-dependent than US coins. This coin may bring two grand in MS 62, but in AU it won't be worth more than a few hundred tops, and in the grade yours is in, a few dollars.
Yes, Ardatirion is quite right! Such coins are not rare but tend to be in low conditions. So a very nice coin of this type in MS will be worth 2000 dollars or even more but most will be worth only several dollars. Yours is 3 ro 5 dollars. But the value is not always the most important thing I think, an old coin is a piece of history itself! I was collecting such coins and other Chinese anciet coins for several years. And now I have moved to British hammered coins. But I always have some feeling for such copper coins like yours. BTW, it is quite popular now in China. Hope you like it, K2Coins! Assur
