So what do you think this 31-S is worth? It has been cleaned but i would say that its VF in details! I picked it up at what i think was a good price... thoughts?? Sorry for the bad pics!

Pictures make it hard to assess grade, and if it has been cleaned, as stated on the 2x2, it will be less than normal value. How bad the cleaning is will be a determining factor as to how much it will play on the value.

Those are my thoughts as well. I guess ill just take it to my coin store and let them give me a price on it?

It's difficult to give a good assessment with those photos...straight on photos would help. I don't see a lot of wear on the coin...but it clearly has been cleaned and has a sizable rim ding.

There are enough nice uncleaned 31-S's out there, I would doubt if you could get $70 for it, but I have never seen a cleaned 31-S sell, so ........

Well i only paid $30 for it and thats because i dont have the cash for a VG example to go in my book... Thats my plans for this coin once i determine a value on it. Thanks for all your thoughts BTW!

So for any of you who are curious, i got this coin looked at by my local guys at the coin store and they said it would be valued at somewhere around $80 since "it looks like it was cleaned with a wire wheel and battery acid"...LOL!! That being said i think i got the good end of the deal!!!

    1) Take your pictures straight OVER the coin, no angle.
    2) Take your coin out of the holder for pictures.
    3) Don't take "sideways" pictures, it's annoying.
    4) Looks to have VF-EF details, $20-$30 max value IMO.....but I would never buy it. LOL

I know the 31S is the rarest of the 31 Lincolns with 866,000 strikes. However, yours is what's called a problem coin as the cleaning is very obvious. That being said, it hurts the value and would not sell for more than $35 on a good day. If anyone offers you more than that, you should jump on that offer without hesitation as most collectors don't like problem coins in their collections, and many won't use one as a hole filler either.
