I am very interested in Germany especially Nazi coins. If I were to start collecting where should I start? and what should I look for?

Probably 75% of the Third Reich minors are quite inexpensive (KM97, KM90, KM91, KM92, etc.).

Looks like there's over 300 dates and mint combos you could find for $2 or less. For 50 pfennig and up, prices begin to surge. Whether the lower-grade 2 and 5 Reichmarks are selling as bullion, I don't know. The zincs, of course, are hard to find in decent shape; most are corroded almost beyond recognition.

You might start with a Type Set, and see which designs appeal most to you. Types KM95, KM80, and KM85 are going to be tough. As far as bullion content, none appear to be over 0.4016 Troy ounces.

The beauty of grubbing through dealers' foreign junkboxes is there's always the chance of a rare mintmark, e.g., 1936-G 10 pfennig = $150+.

BTW, do dealers still have foreign junkboxes??

    Try out this website:

    www.luckylukeonline.com

He is a coin dealer that specializes in Nazi coinage. I have never bought anything from him, but I like his page because there is plenty of good info to be found. When you first go to the page, some annoying WW 2 page pops up; just re-type the URL and you'll be all set.

Well the silvers can be gotten for melt on a good day and the coppers are dirt cheap. I would start with the simple 1 cent coins.

Reichspfennigs can be cheap as they are often dug up on Eastern Front battlefields and sold on the collector's market. I have two: 5 pfennigs from 1940 and 10 pfennigs from 1941

This unpleasant image is taken from a horror film called "Dead Snow." In the original undoctored format, the partially-shown soldier is holding a chain saw, probably not standard issue...

I thought the Wehrmacht always sent soldiers to war with chainsaws. Wolfenstein 3D lied to me!!

Same here, got the 2RMs, but not the 5s. Not sure I can afford them for now. :(

Then you will have to wait forever. ;) The Zeppelin pieces were not "Nazi Era" coins as the OP put it.

Yes this coin was minted by the Weimar Republic in 1930… Butthere was a Nazi party / NSDAP in Germany during that time. But back to thethread, I agree that lucky luke site has a great research page that shows allthe rare mint marks. Where to start collecting depends on your budget FamousTetsuo. The Reichspfennig coins are the most affordable, except the 5 & 10 Reichskreditkassen(zinc with a hole in the center). I like silver though, so I’m no longer reallyinterested in the Nazi era small change. The average 5 mark coin goes foraround $17 from golden eagle, but I see them sell on ebay for $40 sometimes(crazy!). I would say start with those.

I haven't seen any junk box's in a long time. not since i was a kid. That's how i found my first Nazi Era coin. But im sure they still exist depending on the owner.

As for the rest of what you said. Thank you i will start looking into that.

If you should be offered so called " nazi - gold - coins " >> do not buy them. They are either fantasy - coins or , more likely , gold - plated standard - coins. There was not minted gold in Germany after 1915.

So true... I also see strange fantasy bars being sold. Some sellers pretend they are real...

Ok. Thanks for the Heads up.

Its sad that you have to be on the lookout for people trying to scam you on something as good heart'ed as coin collecting. Anytime i buy coins from private sellers i ask for ID and usually get there tag number as well. I always give my info when selling.
