I see no problem with his response. Heritages goal is not to take consignments of one ANACS coin with a limited market. If they don't have much in their auction records they cant help you much and besides the VAM market has been all over, they probably would hesitate to give guidance on most VAM's.
Just noting but Heritage does auction ANACS coins' and even ones' with limited market. Right know they have lot of anacs coins up in auction in their weekly world auction listings.
Personally I find it quite rude and arrogant to dismiss an entire company as idiots because you didn't like one person's answer to your e-mail.
I'd certainly like to know "which" forums suggested prices of between $250 and $250,000? Too often, folks forget that some coins simply have a limited audience and unless the piece that is being presented is a high grade example, that limited audience turns a deaf ear and an empty pocket book toward the listing. Good Luck with your coin but I expect that it'll be a very long time before it ever see's $250 much less $250,000 as it appears that, judging from those that have been listed here, those that want them, already have them. Will an Attribution by PCGS make a Difference? Probably not and I expect that Heritage is fully aware of this. Besides, they have a $5,000 minimum value before they'll even consider listing someone's coins. Given that, I'm surprised that you even got an email reply.
LOL. Are you kidding me? You send a question which a million variables, which is impossible to answer, nor is it their responsibility to answer. They give you a very polite response. You refer to them as 'idiots', and post a 100% unreasonable response. You, my friend, are lost.
I appreciate your apology, and I felt it was well done. I hope everyone will stop criticism /praise on it as it seems to be a resolved issue, unless HA takes an extreme view. It really was a no-win situation in my mind, as if they answer that they are not interested" many would take affront because they felt HA was snubbing their coin. If they didn't answer at all, the thread might focus on that for the same reason. So what should HA do? Probably what they did was the best answer. I can not remember where a thread that calls out a company, person, or personal action, that has ever influenced an ending result satisfactory to the originator. Ebay/Paypal probably gets the most of these threads, but I can not remember one where it caused them to change a decision to the poster's favor. So mainly it is a steam relieving post/thread, for the member, but this can be done without using names ,emails, or phone numbers, or privileged information, which can lead to legal problems.
Admittedly, I've only dealt with the jewelry department for HA, but I've found the staff to be quite cordial, even when I disagree with them. Heritage is a very professional company. As far as getting an estimate on your item, I believe they were as thorough as can be expected. Without high resolution photographs of the item, it would be difficult for even the most seasoned die variation collector to place a value on the VAM in question.
He probably had no idea what you were talking about with all the run-on sentences you used. You give what you get when it comes to etiquette? Sounds like the words of an angry person or a six year old if ya ask me. Just sayin.
Honestly, if I emailed the Senior Numismatist at a venerable firm and I got any reply at all, I'd be flattered ... even honored. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I believe advanced professionals ought to be accorded some level of respect, if not just 'the benefit of the doubt.' (That was the part that shocked me most, here.) I especially hate the degradation of civility that's been encouraged by the internet. Nowadays, it's easy for practically anyone to launch a mean-spirited and thoughtless tirade. And yes, we ALL have our moments. So Thank You! mrweasluv. In my opinion that apology was the only appropriate thing to do/say - and now this imbroglio should be considered water-under-the-bridge (as desertgem notes.) Regards.
