Using Abbreviations on the Forum: I have noticed that there are so many abbreviations being used on this forum in regards to Varieties. I have wondered where they all come from since some of them seem to be misleading to me, and hard to understand. So I started looking around and found this list of abbreviations from James Wiles (CONECA) in one of his publications...does anyone know off and can post any other lists? Maybe we can all get on the same page? Note: MD and MDD, and SD Larry Nienaber
Just an FYI, but many people use MD when talking about Mechanical Doubling, which is the same as Machine Doubling, so with regards to MD you'll have to take it in context of what's being said to understand if the person means Mechanical Doubling or Master Die.
Well, i see a few that are incorrect. LDS the letters are in the wrong order. MMS those are candy coated chocolates CC is closed captioning FS means for sale and last but not least, BS. well.....yea.
I am. From the part of N.Y. that doesn't speak with useguys, gahead, and forgetaboutit. Not that there's anything wrong wit dat!
I think you solved this for me. Why are we so lazy now-days that we need to use abbreviations for everything? why not just say broad struck , off center , struck thru die cap , doubled die , worthless mechanical doubling or whatever the error or variety is ? this abbreviation crap is too confusing for new coin collectors.IMHO
