You might want to try to get out more often. Canada and Mexico both produce some of the most appealing coins in my opinion.
You should venture out of North America more in my opinion I would choose a Britannica or Kookaburra any day of the week over a libertad or Maple Leaf I really wish mints outside of North America priced their bullion accordingly. Some of the stuff countries like Israel, Kazaksthan, Figi, etc are great but the premiums leave you scratching your head
Well, I am not sure if this counts because it is a private mint, but I would vote for Australia for the issues that come out of the Perth Mint.
I assume based on your first post, you are not restricting to currently minted bullion issues. Thus, I would have to say that Italy would be in the running. Some of the early 20th century designs were absolutely stunning.
Good answer Brg, but I would have to say ancient greek silver is the most appealing of all time. A close second in my opinion would be early Sassanian coins. Most of the beautiful coins in the world are recreations of Greek designs.
I'm with coin on this one. The Walking Liberty design is classic. Now, if they would just put the St. Gaudens design on silver . . . .
Yes, the Walking Liberty design is classic -- too bad it's a rip off of L. Oscar Roty's "Semeuse" design of French coins that was being minted since 1898.
I don't have one yet, but I like the Canadian Maple Leaf coins, mostly the back of the coin. Maybe I will get one this weekend If I can find one around my area.
Morgans, Mercury, Classic Commemoratives, Barbers, Franklins, Walking Liberty, SLQs == the US of A !!
I think the OP was asking about coins, not just bullion. I was in no way limiting my choice to Mexican and Canadian bullion. Both countries produce a number of commemorative issues, as well as circulating coinage, that is very attractive to me. While I think the Libertad is outstanding, I am not a fan of the Maple Leaf at all, especially its tendency to spot. I also think some of the Britannia designs are attractive, in particular the 2007 and the 2009. The Kooks are okay, but I would not call them beautiful. I like some of the Israeli coins also. In terms of variety of design, production quality and content creativity, I will stick with Canada and Mexico. As I mentioned above, they have many coins that go far beyond just the Libertad and Maple Leaf.
Knock off, or not, they are both beautiful. I do prefer the flowing hair in brg's example. My answer is limited to present modern silver coins.
