After I search a box of halves I always keep a couple dollars worth for spending. I usually give them to my son for the bus.

I'll spend anything that doesn't have a preimum in the secondary market. It is fun to see the reactions.

I just got in order from cheapslabs.com. One of the $15 items I ordered was sold out, so they gave me $16 in $2 bills instead. I guess I'll spend these on campus. Dumb kids will think I'm trying to pull something over them.

I spent halves for a while, but the lunch lady at work gave me such an attitude that I stopped. On the other hand, it's not all bad that she's aggressively ignorant about coins -- she gave me a nice F IHC in my change.

I don't spend halves at the grocery, because (a) I like to clean them out of halves that other people have left -- much better silver ratio than at the banks, and (b) the self-checkout machines won't take them.

Being the juvenile I am I spend halves and dollars all the time. Two dollar bills not so much. I had a roll of uncirculated Monroes (Which I could find no buyer for) so I tore them open and have been letting these bad boys roll. That Coke I paid for yesterday was mighty tasty ;). Hope some lucky person receives a pretty little gift in there change sometime.

I really like giving them to the gum snapping cashiers and they have to all but put them between their teeth to see if they are real . One girl actually did. She removed her gum, and tried to bite on the coin.

I like leaving tips in $2.00 increments. When you lay 5 of 'em down and the waitress walks by, She shows up in a flash with coffee refills to get a better look.

Once I had a young girl at Sears grin and hand one back. She just smiled and waited- apparently for me to give her real money. I handed it back and she said " I can't take this" I asked why not, to which she responded: "there's no such thing as a two dollar bill". The lady working with her whipped around, took one look and said: "sure, you can take it, they make $2 bills" The girl shrugged and handed me the receipt.

QUESTION: Do you guys order your coins by the roll at your bank. That is where I order up $2's, $200.00 at-a-time; but I never asked for specific coin rolls. Anyone have problems with their bank doing this?

I know this is an old thread, but last year me and my girlfriend drove down to Disney World from New hampshire and paid all of our tolls with halves and ikes. We also brough $200 in 2's to spend at the park. We got a lot of weird looks and smiles out of people as well.

I spend two dollar bills all of the time. Also spend Ike dollars, small dollar coins and halves when I have them.

My favorite is to go to one of the local fast food joints that has a dollar menu... purchase three items and then pay with the "trifecta" of a $2 bill, Ike Dollar and a Kennedy Half. Not a spot in the cashier's drawer for any of them, hahahaha!

    I love dead threads!

I have been spending $2.00 notes and half dollars quite often. People around here seem to be OK with it, but that might just be because Chicago is a fairly large town and odd things get floated around. About once a year I get an old silver certificate back in change.

I'll get Sac or POTUS dollars from banks and our credit union just to spend.

Mostly to circulate them, but the hidden reason is to see the look on the kid's faces at the checkout and drive through. They haven't a clue what they are.

I had an old $1 bill floating around in my car for like 2 years and I kept it because it was old. Then I actually looked at it like a week ago and it is a silver certificate, which I thought was exciting.

This seemed like a fun thread at one point, glad I woke it up!

Whenever I am at the bank, which is not often, I ask for and almost always get $2 bills, sometimes half dollars. And I spend them at fast food places, etc. The reactions are across the board and quite entertaining.

Maybe they search halves and have some available. I don't know how otherwise they would have them unless they specially order them to put them back into circulation.

I use Ikes, halves and twos with the kids for their allowance. They love it.

I don't get many halves, dollar coins or two dollar bills, but I put them back in circulation whenever I do. I also like to spend wheat cents and dateless buffalo nickels. I hope that someone will find them and it will spark a new collector.

Mine used to love it also, but now that they are older (13/12), they want 5's and 10's :(
