The information may exist, but it may only exist inside the graders head. And if he doesn't remember your coin...... View attachment 210927 View attachment 210928 genuine slab, fake coin i have a PCGS one as well. (don't know why they don't appear. Click them as links and the image should show) Yes it is.
Conder101, Your images are not showing up even if i via them as link. As i said before it doesn't take a expert to crack open a slab (especially older ones) take the genuine coin out substitute a fake, seal it back or build a new slab with a original legit holo and cert#. I know newer slabs are designed with security features to prevent that, might explain why counterfiet rings still use older designs for counterfiet coins.
GDJMDP: The comment about rolling mills was in reference to DesertGem's reply in Why the Price of Silver is headed to $50 by 2013. See posts #17 & 18. My apologies if I mis-understood the reply.
I might have misunderstood you Bill. I thought you were commenting that they were counterfeiting coins with roller dies similar to this one - edit - Conder's links work just fine for me.
You're referring to well known counterfeiter "Jinghuashei" (his former eBay ID) and the interview by Susan Headley. Scroll about 1/3 of the way down this link to find the article: http://www.coinauthentication.co.uk/newsletter11.html
That's it. There are plenty of really great coins, especially pre-1900's, worth collecting but not worth counterfeiting. I'll stay away from the higher dollar stuff unless it is pedigreed and authenticated prior to my purchase. For now, I'll stick with coins having a 2-low 3 figure price tags.
The links do not work for me either - just clicking it pops up the link is broken. Right clicking and open in a new tab says to "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator Read more: http://www.cointalk.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=210927". So it probably works because you are an all powerful moderator.
Here is a brand new link at NGC describing the 1882 3 dollar coin. I thought that some of the numismatists at CT might enjoy the read. http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewart...AS1&spJobID=58146767&spReportId=NTgxNDY3NjcS1 When you click on the NGC photo(s), it will enlarge the photo(s) so you can easily see the diagnostics described in the article.
Thanks. I hope that other CT folk will find the link at the end of this thread. Perhaps I should post this link in a new thread? http://www.ngccoin.com/news/viewart...AS1&spJobID=58146767&spReportId=NTgxNDY3NjcS1
