I don't know much about ancients but I think we need clearer pictures, please. Also, please try to hold the coin by the edges.

Holding a coin like that is perfectly acceptable for an ancient coin like that one.

    Because:

    1. Its a low grade coin
    2. Its by definition already been cleaned
    3. Our coins are tough, they aren't little wimpy "if you touch me you will damage me" sissy coins like moderns are.

    :)

I would think, that ancients, well, the thin ones, while break more easily than a nickel

Ironically, holding them by the edge would increase that risk, as they are more likely to snap in half.

+1 or better yet, more cleaning.

Also, handling ancients dies not affect their grade like moderns where fingerprints and skin oils do. Ancients are dug out of the ground and go through a rigorous cleaning process, therefore, handling them is no big deal and really fun. There is something about handling a coin the way someone did 2,000 years earlier.

    I have no idea, enough.

  21. That looks like a coin from my childhood days.
They were once round made out of meal and dateless and some almost faceless.
No such thing as keeping one as it took all we had just to get by.
Can any old heads here rember how much your first take home paycheck was.
    Mine was 58.85.
I could feed kids and wife and pay all my bills for that amount.
That was when a dollar was a true dollar and goverment was very small.
