Well, I've been on hiatus from the site for a while as I recently bought a new house. However, as the leaves are changing, the air is becoming cooler and summer projects are winding down (finally!) I thought I would hold a contest to celebrate the milestone. Being "dimeguy" I thought I would hold a contest where the prize would be a Roosevelt BU starter set. Winner will recieve 1 raw BU Roosevelt dime each from the 1940's, 1950's, silver 1960's, clad 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's, 2010's, and one proof dime. (I don't have dates as I plan to obtain them at the Indy coin show in November) Deadline: November 8-contest will end Everyone is eligible, and the task is simple enough. You are to take the 50 Statehood Quarters (exclude all the territories) and PM me a list of themes for the reverses. A theme is any object, idea, symbol, ect. that is represented at least 3 times, and yes, must be on 3 different quarters. Judging will be by me on a point system. Each state listed in a given theme serves as a point. For instance, and as example only, if one individual PM'd: Theme 1: Alabama, Missouri, Florida Theme 2: N. Dakota, N. Carolina, Oregon He would recieve 6 points. Whereas this individual: Theme 1: Alabama, Missouri, Florida, Rhode Island, Indiana Theme 2: N. Dakota, N. Carolina, Oregon, California, Idaho He would recieve 10 points, beating out the first individual. Note, this contest applies to the reverse of these quarters only. Don't PM theme of presidential representation as all the quarters have Washington on the obverse. Also, all obvious requirements of the program will be excluded from the theme list. For example, you cannot PM me "All 50 quarters have the year and name of the state on the reverse." Yes, we know they do. If you have any questions ask and I look forward to reading the answers.
REMINDER: I have recieved a couple PMs already and I just want to remind all involved that the territories and DC are not included in this contest. Just the 50 states. Thanks!
I just submitted my entry via PM, but there's nothing in my "sent mail" folder. Can you just confirm to me that you received my entry? Thanks!
Wow, thanks for the contest! I just sent you my submission via PM. That took about half a day, LOL! Again, thanks for the awesome contest. It gave me an excuse to see which states I was still missing from my folder. PS- I hope you enjoy your new house.
Yes, basically that is all it is. Find as many commonalities in design as you possibly can think of, list that commonality and the states that belong and you are good to go.
Ok, folks, looks like we are at the halfway point. I'll go ahead and reiterate as this is becoming an issue: Each theme must have 3 or it will NOT count. And, since I've been begged for this one for a couple of times now I might as well ruin it for everyone. Music/musical instruments will NOT count unless you can give me a third STATE. I will not accept DC, as stated in the rules. Again, if you can find a third, more power to you, otherwise no, I will not accept "Music/Musical instruments" as a theme. Good luck to all and I will keep looking for more submissions for two more weeks. And just for those interested: Coin show in Indy is Nov 2-3. I will post photos of the prizes after that date. (Gives ya something to look forward to.)
PM sent. I really enjoyed this contest. I've never looked as closely at the state quarters as I did today and I must say some of them are very beautiful.
Ok, guys (and gals). I returned from the coin show and here were today's pick ups. The only one I will apologize for will be the proof as I just didn't notice the ugly toning on the reverse until I got home. Still, these are nice blast white brilliant uncirculated so will make for a fine starter set. Enjoy!
No entry here, but want to congratulate you on home ownership. My wife and I just bought our first house Sept 29th. :hail:
