Morgan dude is 100% correct. The nickel you have for sale is as bogis as a Jackalope. If you were NOT selling these coins on e-bay I wouldn't care THAT much, but you are. If you were NOT showing these coins and telling folks here on this forum that they're "NT" I wouldn't care THAT much. But you are and I do care. It's people like you and what your doing that DOES hurt the hobby. I will not respond to Bahabully's AT or NT topic anymore as I've said my piece.....I will, however, post more NT coins...My hats off to you, Morgan dude. Well said my friend, well said .....DEX

I like the antique toners.... generally a much lighter premium, if any.

 

1937 D Buffalo

Nice soft pastels, looks better in hand. Picked up today at the ANA show Dallas. Only graded ms63 but I liked it.

 

The blotchiness is almost impossible to see in hand, but my pictures sure love it. And the obverse is much bluer than the reverse. Anyway, for now;

 

This is completely off topic (sorta), but I'm viewing this thread on a Nexus 7 (POS in many ways, but I may have finally found a GREAT reason for folks to get one). This is the first time that the colors shown on the screen (camera, two different laptops, and phone) match the colors my eye sees on the ASE I posted (first photo of the three). Usually the digital image is more yellow, but this is matched to my eyes. Again, it probably ONLY applies to images taken by my camera, but it made me happy to see the colors I actually see!

 

I just now realized that you're calling the ASE AT... the deep blue / indigo color is a common color for silver sulfide deposits on silver. I can't imagine anyone thinking it was artificial. Anyone who has owned a US Mint issued uncirculated ASE can attest to that happening after seven or eight years in the holder, since the government didn't issue airtites for the ASEs in non-proof finish.

By contrast, pastel or "Easter egg" colors are generally viewed as AT without TPG opinion, since the thickness of the silver-sulfide layer must be near perfect and expand through the coin surface at an accelerated pace to render those colors.

 

I know exactly what that coin looks like in hand...impossible for a photograph to show it. NICE!

I agree with Pacecar on the NT vs. AT debate. I've been following it in this thread and it seems that everyone has an opinion and everyone feels that they must state their opinion. I don't think that this issue will ever be resolved until they come up with a way to detect NT and AT coins scientifically. That is if they will ever be able to do that!

 

Wooleytree; your 1937 Nickel is absolutely lovely. I would've bought it at MS63 also. Good eye you have and congratulations on this new addition to your collection!

 

Here's one I picked up awhile back. I just got around to trying to capture the toning, though I didn't do too well.

These were the first Morgans I ever bought.

Trying a new lighting setup and these were good candidates.

This coin looks a lot like my experiment of dipping a coin right after the acetone bath. The nice gold color eventually turns to an ugly black.
