Nice pickups funkee, that $20 is a monster - love the red overprint - and that Philly is nice and one of the rarer sig combos on that issue. The last of my big Greek wad that came in - though I did get another Greek yesterday, but that is for another day... these are all fractionals from 1941, a complete UNC set... they are small, so you get to see lots of them at once...
Another Greek note, just one more to complete the three note run of Greek 1950 small denom notes. I do like this and the 500 of the same series, like many Greek notes they have coin images on them, you collect two in one! Of course, the pictures of the coins were likely there to trick the Greeks into thinking their money was worth a damn... which it wasn't. Just about out of new additions - some in the mail, but coming up a on a dry spell. Sad face...
Really down to it, I don't know why I bought yet another 1928C Chicago $10, I guess I am hoarding these damn things. I am not going to keep it, but I saw it inexpensively and my currency OCD kicked in. I should have left it out in the sea for another fisherman to catch, but then what would I have to post today in the new pickup thread? See, worth it right there just not to leave this thread empty handed...
I won a group lot of currency at a local auction today -- mostly fractionals and a couple common notes. But in amongst them was this interesting advertising note I thought I'd share. It's really a dollar-off coupon for a San Francisco photography studio, Bradley & Rulofson, who were well-known in the 1870s and '80s. But they did a great job copying the form of a National Gold Bank Note! Even more quirky is that it appears to be well-circulated, giving it a more genuine appearance. I wonder if someone carried it around in a wallet. Or maybe they just gave it out over and over each time it was brought in. Anyone seen these before?
I've never seen it. It definitely looks like a National Gold Bank Note. I thought that's what you got. Nice find.
gsalexan Thats a neat find, old coupons like that are sometimes hard to find. And even when found they're usually pretty beat up. But to answer your question, yes. There are many different types of coupons and tickets issued in the past. Many of them are rare and collectible.
I did some Googling and found a couple examples of this advertising note in auctions. A badly taped up copy went for $75 but a VF example brought $800! Wow! I'd say this piece is VG and probably the most valuable note in the entire group I bought. Total fluke! :b8nce:
Bill Collector - Nice Dueces. Do you know if they are being produced for all the districts or only for Boston? I know the 1995s and 2003s (I believe) were only for Minneapolis and Atlanta, respectively, and the other districts were NIFC issues.
Bill Collector, I've been asking banks around my area about the 2009s, but nobody has seen them. What area of the country are you in?
I have no Idea, I don't know why the BEP even bother printing them as very few people use them. But just had to have some because I have all the others from 1976 on up. Bill Collector
Hi Timewarp, I'm in the eastern part of PA, but the banks around me are just that, banks doing banking, I've asked them if they would order new twos for me and all they say is NO because no body wants them, I didn't get them in PA, got them from a friend north of me. Bill Collector
I finally picked up my first large size note.... and it came in the mail today! 1896 $1.00 Silver Certificate "Educational" Note. I imagine that it would grade somewhere between G-8 and VG-10, but I still think she's pretty swell! Thanks to MEC2 for providing some off-the-cuff advice before I purchased it.
Urban, that note faces up very nicely for he grade and I think you made a good call purchasing it. Nice note! :thumb:
Agree with Dr. Kegg, nice face up for the grade, love the contrast on the face and good color on the rear, nice pickup to be sure. Speaking up pickups... I *finally* got another note in - I know, my life has no meaning if I am not acquiring something and posting in this thread. Picked this up at the last big Heritage auction last week. My only win out of 3 dozen bids... sad face. I have two examples of this note but I like this one a bit more, so I think this is the final version for my Confederate collection, and I can let the others go. It's in a PMG holder (not for long though, it's going in a new frame) F15...
About how long does it take to get notes received from Heritage after they notified you that you won an auction bid?
