And I thought this was a forum to talk about coins. Silly me.

It's a shame that a few have decided to trash this forum with threads made to look like they are actually coin related. Why do you folks have to do this to such a great site? It's not right or fair to those that come here to enjoy the hobby. How many have been drove away or are posting less because of it?

I understand that I'm not helping matters by posting this OT thread but it's out of control.
I'm sorry mods. Feel free to delete this or move it. I don't care anymore.

I agree with you too. I think some do it out of boredom. I will admit that when I 1st came on CT I got carried away with my postings, but I've learned to tone it down a bit and be as informational as possible.

I also don't like the way some of the members thread newcomers on this site.

There is also one particular member who constantly posts links to other websites. Maybe it's just me but I don't feel how constantly posting links makes it a discussion. Your supposed to be coming up with your own original content, instead of just linking to another website. Anybody can copy and paste a link. Thinking of your own creative content is the heart of a good thread.

Maybe a special section should be created for "Coin News Links".

Perhaps there is a bit too much spice being added to the mix. I personally will cease feeding into it.

However, no one can deny mrbrklyn puts a smile on their faces once in a while.

Ruben, that is not a fair response. I first thought about editing it, but there is little there that the member has not posted himself, so I didn't. But his posting was not directed against you, but directed to the number and types of posts you throw up on the forum. I as a member agree with him. You responded very personally, and not related to the subject at all. Please think about it.

    Hmmm

I don't see how his shoes and unemployment are coin related topics. As for him personally, unlike the hundreds of others who have publically piled on him, I will not, have not and still will not.

In all fairness...all those posts of his that were note coin related were in the General Discussion forum...where it's allowed. The same cannot be said for yours.

I don't wish to really discuss it, but if you want to know what else I might have to say about this, since your are bringing it up, you know my email address and phone number (and address etc)

I totally agree, there are far too many off topic threads. I also would like to see more threads that lend themselves to some numismatic discussions. Threads like this one originally posted by gbroke http://www.cointalk.com/t216091/ is a perfect example of what I would like to see more of. Many different opinions, but everybody had their reasons and everyone kept the discussion peaceful and friendly.

Also, I have posted threads that have been quickly pushed out because someone decided to start a dozen or so threads in a matter of ten minutes or so. I don't want to be someone that keeps bumping up their own threads, but I was looking for information when I started the thread, and I was unable to get the information that I was seeking due to the quick barrage of new threads being posted. I wish that the members that do this would at least have the courtesy to respect threads started by others.

Two thoughts here. First, what is wrong with posts that refer to news articles? Sure, not all of them are interesting for everybody, but that applies to pretty much every topic here. ;) What I dislike is threads where the OP uses something like "ugh" as a subject of a new topic, and then posts a mere link. Fortunately that hardly ever happens here - what I usually see instead is a subject taken from a news site headline maybe, and then a quote and the link to the full story, with or without a personal comment.

A post like that may result in a discussion here, or it may "scroll down unresponded". If nobody replies, does that make such a topic less "valuable" than a topic such as Post your Morgan Dollars or Show us your coins from (followed by some country name)?

Another thing is the position of "Coin Chat" in the list of forums. It comes first now, and so it works, to some extent, like an all-purpose bin. If we had the region specific forums first, maybe (maybe!) more people would start new topics in "US Coins" or "World Coins" ...

Well I can opin that I can quite easily figure out who you are referring to and that frankly I find his posts rather comically entertaining. Yours however have been bordering on the annoying for quite awhile since we heard all about your wife taking off with another guy and turning your kids on you - which you handily discussed here on this forum.

I think it is not appropriate to again be discussing the validity of Detecto's posts or threads, anymore than it was appropriate to discuss the validity of the Queen of England when that happens over and over again.

The finger pointing stops here and now - and that goes for everybody.

If you have something to say on the topic of the thread, then say it. But I will not allow this to degenerate into a he said she said free for all where everybody blames everybody else or a bunch of personal likes and dislikes.
