got a 72 d quarter that is larger, more bold(missing fine details),darker in color, and weighs less(5.5) than a quarter. Still has reeded edge however reed marks run onto top of rim on reverse and stop before rim on obverse. Also off centered slightly. Anything special? Heard of quarter on a dime and nickel but they weigh less than this quarter. Any help greatly appreciated.thx

    Hey Coin,

You can change the color back to black now, if you're done moderating for tonight.

    72 d quarter ??error??

got a 72 d quarter that is larger, shinier, darker n color, has reeded edge(stops before rim on both sides),bold(missing fine details on pics, but weighs only 5.5 grams. Foreign planchet? Unidentified metal? Also slightly off centered. Any value? Heard of quarters struck on nickels and dimes but those both weigh less than quarter in question. Thought broadstruck but has reeded edge and boldstruck but has broadstruck features. Also Has Faint doubling(n ot Raised Its Slightly Shifted to Right)needless to say spent 8 hrs trying to identify. Any help is appreciated.

Sigh, I merged the 2 threads together. Check the rules before other surprises. Welcome to the forum

I'm watching the quarter the best I can but the picture just isn't good enough to even venture a gues. The most unusual thing about it that I'm sure about is that it's an AU which is borderline strange.

It does "seem" to be otherwise different as well but who knows?

I'll lose this thread once it falls off page one so PM me if you can get good pictures or a better description.
