This is SOOOOOOO right. And it is IS FRAUD!! Why don't you just man up? I can't let this go either, it's just so wrong what your doing!! DEX
I don't know if any of the coins I have purchased have been doctored or not.... I already said that !! geez. AS to what you say "must" be done,,, there have been highly regarded folks in the hobby (much more so than anyone posting in this thread) who have said that as much as 50% of all toned monstors in tpg plastic may have been doctored. Now given that, and assuming you believe that (which I do)... are you saying that I should list the coin below as "Might have been doctored".... even if it's certified by pcgs or ngc or other top tier tpg ?... or does a tpg grade remove all resonsibility from the seller to declare their opinion regarding potential doctoring ?
Sorry, I don't normally respond to off-topic posts, but this time I feel the need. Why don't you "experts" lay off the guy. It's his perogative to sell coins and disclose if they are AT or NT. He is not trying to sell them in this thread. If you see them for sale other places, then don't bid on them. You are not gonna stop everyone from doing things that you don't agree with. Why not just move along to the next post. If you guys are such "experts", may I suggest that you go apply to NGC, PCGS, etc. and put a stop to these evils that are ruining the moral fabrics of this great nation.
If you guys want to continue to quibble like grade-schoolers, can't you do it in a separate thread???
I wonder how the folks that have purchased these AT coins are going to feel once they get them back from grading BODY BAGGED as problem coins? I know the difference and so do MANY other good folks that collect color. I wonder how that applies to the moral fabric of this forum and coin collecting in general?
It shouldn't be seller prerogative to disclose whether a coin is artificially toned. The seller should always disclose that unless they have an intent to be fraudulent in the sale. If they genuinely don't know, that should also be disclosed. Now, to bring this back on topic, here are three photos of a single bullion piece. The obverse has monster toning and the reverse is blast white. From this, I've concluded that the sulfur isn't in the velvet part of the US Mint holders, but rather in the satin part. In order: macro shot ~4cm, macro zoom from ~16cm, macro zoom from ~16cm w/flash.
You're probably very correct on that. That was the OTHER possibility, but my outcome assessment was based upon experience with Prestige sets, as well.
I likely.. watch out for that purple however.. at least that's what I've heard. Also, I also agree with what you say regarding what I'd call best practices for sellers w.r.t. AT , NT and MA. That said, for those of us who really can't tell the difference how would you propose we approach selling tgp'ed coins.? Do you think sellers who are not toning "experts" should always post in an auction that despite tpg certification the nature of the toning is unknown and should be considered suspect for potential AT ? I asked this above in the thread but none of our experts have replied directly to that question.. maybe you would offer an opine ? Also, do you think that a tpg graded coin removes all resonsibility from the seller to declare their opinion regarding potential doctoring and AT ? Should all sellers of tpg'ed toned coins offer their opinion regarding NT or AT in each auction, or only in "all" raw toner auctions ? Anyway,, nice dollar.
You know exactly what I am referring to--raw coins that are extremely OBVIOUS AT (such as some of the ones you display, and deny responsibility for the legitimacy of the toning). In the case of TPG coins, the grading service is responsible and has made a decision based on expertise that they are legitimate. They have guarantees as to authenticity---obviously TPGS have been fooled at times, but their guarantee provides more security than the "home brew" raw that some folks are marketing, and denying responsibility for how they got that way.
If it's in a TPG holder, just sell it as a graded coin. If there's any doubt to the legitimacy of toning, mention it. I'm under the impression that the TPGs use + signs or * signs on toned coins, so if your label doesn't have those, it's possible that the toning occurred after slabbing. As for "best practices" for sellers, I never said anything of the ilk. If you sell AT coins without disclosing that fact, it's fraud. Plain and simple. If you're not sure on the status of the toning as AT/NT, state that clearly. As for the "best practices" aspect, I would say that should include a money back guarantee if the coin is EVER found to be AT by a credible TPG (PCGS/NGC or if in the future there are better TPGs, one of those). Those are my thoughts on best practice. My previous post wasn't about best practices in selling/marketing, but rather clearly indicated that non-disclosure of AT status is fraud.
Stop selling shake and bake coins, and there is plenty of love. Here is how obvious the entire thing is: Artificial toning (doesn't occur like this in nature--no how no way): Natural toning common to the same series:
one's a clad proof and the other a silver business strike... poor side by side. I don't tone coins, I buy them toned.. 3rd time (at least) I've said that,,, but can go back and forth saying it with you all day long <vision of cat-dog cartoon> and yes, toning like that does occur naturally... look back in the thread and you'll see one like this I've posted where better experts than you have agreed. I could also find similar toned proof nickels in other tpg slabs if you like for me to do your leg work. that specific coin was purchased in in a very colorful toned mint set.... I got a total of 6 of them, all with color. Have certified 1 and have sold 2 (not counting this one). So 2 more to go.. stay tuned and enjoy the upcoming color !!
Whatever. We all know what your coins are. You wanna deny--go right ahead. I will stick to my opinions and you stick to yours. However, you are not fooling anybody around here, so give up on the self-rietous act. They are all AT coins. END OF STORY>
good heavens... END of STORY too,,, hope everyone has enjoyed. I'm off into the weekend !! ... oh, NKorea,, no, tpgs do no mark all toners with + and *... just fyi there. Other than that I think I agree with what your saying... just passed into MST (Miller Standard Time)... giddyup.
