Hey guys, was trying to get an idea of this coins value. It certainly appears to be uncirculated however, it also appears to have de-chroming around the head and face area. Can't wait to see what the "collective hive" thinks this coin is worth..thanks View attachment 210009 View attachment 210010 View attachment 210011 View attachment 210012
Need a pic of the "head and face" area (obverse). However, this a common coin, and usually sells in the twenty dollar range in circulated condition. Here's a lower grade BIN on eBay right now for around $20: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1892-COLUMB...93?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item4abd64a839
With all due respect boys, I think me coin is in MUCH better shape that that thing on ebay. WOW, it appears as if it were involved in a train wreck.
For some reason, this and the '93 seem especially susceptible to dark, unattractive toning... so I agree with the fact that the OP's was probably cleaned at one time. However, even lower grade examples (that should sell for melt or slightly higher) seem to garnish enough interest to push them close to thirty bucks. I picked up this one at my local B&M for seven bucks a few years ago:
For $40 right now you can get a nice AU slabbed example of this coin. IMO, since a lot of these were cleaned, I would shoot for a problem free coin.
The coin imaged is obviously circulated and has significant hairlines across the surfaces that are commonly found on cleaned coins. It may have escaped being cleaned, but it was slid around mightily on something hard. This is worth little more than bullion.
