I just finished my 20th century type set today. Now I'm thinking about atb. I'm very interested in getting the atb quarter proof sets. I have p and d bu raw set of state quarters but a proof set of those has been itching me. So either leave the states as p and d and do the atb as the proofs. Or both as proofs. I'm just thinking the atb are more beautiful and warrant "proofing". I've never been a proof guy but their superior quality and beauty has been itching at me. So i guess my question to warrent wanting them proofed...what do you find more beautiful, the state quarters or atb quarters?

  3. I like the ATB designs. You might consider silver proofs. IMO, they look even better in silver. TC

On this one i decided to be real odd, I'm putting together an "s" set. Is not easy (or cheap at $18 a roll) but i'm off to a good start (and have plenty of volcano hi and acadia me as i had to buy bags of each)

I have the P and D BU of the state quarter series and also some very selected clad and silver proofs of the series I really like.

Regarding the ATB series, I have all of the silver proofs to date and some very selected clad proofs and BUs of the series I really like.

I agree that the ATB designs are better than the state designs in general.

If they had done a true National Park series instead of just another enhanced state series, it would have been much better I think.

Anyway, I agree with you that I would try to obtain better quality coins in the ATB series than in the state series.

You might be making a big assumption that the "S" strikes will be continued for the duration of the series.

Don't tell anybody, but I actually do like the ATB quarters. The El Yunque quarter in proof is my absolute favorite. Might have to get one of them PMD colorized proofs to go with it

After the territories, beautiful or not, I had to call it quits and divert my efforts to 19th century coins (large cents) and Lincoln cents (1909-1958).

I partly agree. I try it balance however, one old/pricy coin with one modern/cheaper piece per month.

Satins were only in 2005 through 2010 mint sets.

Nice post. This is very similar to what I was thinking. I just wanted some in put from the community. I'll probably start the atb once I finish some other projects.

Just a suggestion, but think about switching gears to Lincoln cents, Mercury dimes, large cents, walking liberty halves, or something other than the newest quarters the Mint is putting out (or any new Mint product).

Mint drove me over the cliff in 2009. I'm only going to them for the MS commemoratives in gold from now on.

But If I was in the hunt I think the silver proofs would be the way to go and hope they tone up as there is talk that they will be going to 9999 fine silver soon.

I just got some real nice silver state quarter sets (thanks Mike!), and I'm definitely happy with them. I am thinking I'll probably do the ATB set next also in silver to match as well since they are also very appealing to me. I've got some from sets, but I might just try to snipe them graded one by one off eBay since they can be found cheap enough if you're patient.

I like some of each. My favorite SH is the Nevada and my favorite ATB so far is the Hawaii. I don't collect these but if I did I would get the silver proofs for sure and probably the MS versions.
