I guess you can call me a "drifter" as I dabbled in all kinds of different areas. I collected Morgan dollars for a while, then Franklin halves, then old world copper, and now Roosevelt dimes. But for the most part I like all coins.

that's close to me. way back I did Franklins then went for MS Morgans and Walkers. sold most of the Mogans and went for early halves and more Walkers. I also stack silver & gold bullion but that's a seperate goal.

I just do type coins anymore. I think I have bought 2 coins this year. I'm not counting the few things I order from the mint each year. Don't really have a direction or goal any longer. Just having fun with the hobby and other crazy folks like myself.

Did you find these terms and definitions somewhere, or did you come up with them yourself. Personally, I find a couple of them kind of offensive. I fit a couple of those categories but would not refer to myself in the terms you posted.

I'm sure it's fine to add to the list. We probably all see the way we collect to be a bit different than the next guy. Lets here some creative definitions.

Series collector-I find a series that I haven't touched in a while and collect every one that I can get my hands on. First I do a business strike set, then I do a proof set, then I collect any patterns that I can get for the series. Then I go to the next one. Working on proof Liberty nickels now and plan on doing proof Trade dollars next.

Fossil? That's the best you can do? I have books on my shelf in English, Latin, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Turkish, and Chinese that I routinely use. I collect coins that maybe four other people are interested in, in the whole world, and personally have a collection that rivals all but the largest European museums. I have at least a passing familiarity with virtually every series, from the earliest archaic Greek fractions, to rare Islamic issues of East Africa, and native American proto-currencies.

And I am about the same age as you
    .

Fossil is really the best name you can come up with? ;)
