The obverse looks that way, but the reverse not so much. I dont see broken rays, although hard to tell from the pics.

I'm going to try and jump-start this thread again:

Uncirculated 1964 roll (not mine). Two nice crusty coins showing. Currently sitting in my work desk, belongs to a decent sized hoard owned by a friend of mine. A few hundred rolls, mostly circulated silver quarters. I may end up helping cherry pick and unload this hoard in next few years, but for now he is holding on to it.

The story is, his father owned a jewerly store, and at the time, people still paid with cash for most things (I know, shocking!). People would come in and pay, and he ended up setting aside any silver. I assume the timeframe is probably between 1950-1960. Well, several years worth of doing this, and you get a nice mini hoard before all the coins disappeared from circulation.

yeah? I assumed it would be worth more and also cooler if it was kept as an original roll. I actually had a cool profile shot of the roll side, but I deleted off my camera accidentally. I'll have to take another.

Are you saying you think there could be some toners in there? I assumed the inner coins would be all blazing white, but then again, I've never opened an original silver roll before so I have no experience.

    Or were you just joking?

There is no added value leaving them in the roll.
The inner coins are not always blast white. The toning will start at the edges and make their way inward on the coins inside. I've seen rolls like this where very single coin came out with beautiful radial toning.

I like the close up pics. Honestly, I can't tell a DDO from a non-DDO in most cases, but I certainly can see your pics being a helpful resource. Do you go to the Brunswick coin shows?

Okay, good to know. The owner of the roll was really wanting to break into that roll, but I kept him from opening it. I am still glad I did, because some of the other "samples" he brought me from his hoard (walking liberties, franklin halves, quarters) were being tossed around like common pocket change, dumping them out over the table, dropping them onto the table, etc as we were discussing the concept of bullion and spot price, and about cherry picking certain coins from the hoard before selling the rest of melt. If he had opened the roll, its safe to assume the grade would be knocked down about 10 points.

Anyway, I will tell him I'm thinking about opening the roll in a controlled environment, and if I do, I'll be sure to take lots of pics to post here for your viewing pleasure.

When do they have the show in Brunswick? How big? Does any of the dealers bring Kennedy half dollars?

This is off topic, but they do shows every few months, and the next one is this weekend! Sunday, Oct 7, 2012. Big show for Maine standards, but small for everywhere else in the world, LOL. I will PM you the info. I went a few months ago, but I dont have any hobby money rigtht now, so I am not sure I will be there this weekend. There will be Kennedy halves, mostly ungraded, some TPG. Not sure if there will be anything to your standards, but it might still be fun to check out.

Now, to make this post legit, here is a Kennedy photo:

To clarify, this is just my opinion. I'm sure an unopened roll will carry a small premium. Just not enough for me to not want to crack it open. :)

Caleb, I am not very familiar with Kennedy proofs. Is this a DDR or some variety? Just curious.
