I'm of the opinion the die's were never "paired up" until press time. As such, the coins produced are referred to a specific die pairings but certainly die's were never intentionally paired up or even produced at the same time.

The OP's coin is the result of a planchet punched from the end of the coil or a portion of the planchet strip that received abrading on both sides from being forced or pulled through feeder rollers. Hence, the striations all going in the same direction as on the Eisenhower. It just so happens that the planchet got fed into the press at a nearly perfect N/S orientation.

This situation occurs on all of the different CnClad coins as I've seen it on a Georgia Quarter, several IKE's, and a couple of Kennedy's.

Sounds kosher! So it's just coincidence that the grain runs as it does. It's just a planchet error. Any value beond face?

19lyds, As for the OP's question I know that it was the metal. As for my question it was just a bit off topic.
