There are many Edward VIII fantasy crown designs to choose from, but I'm very happy to add this one to my horses collection.
I went thru my World Pattern book of coins and found there was not a Gold coin like this one minted in the UK.I am 95% sure its gold plated:devil:
Modern Uruguay centavos and peso minted in Chile Got this from local flea market. Nice condition and there is a horse also.
1923 Japan 50 sen Hello fellow Cointalkers, Here is a Japan 1923 (Yoshihito year 12) 50 Sen coin. It is quite flashy in hand. I was drawn to the phoenix bird design around the denomination on the reverse. This 50 sen coin has a mintage of 185 million. I didn't check the catalog price for the grade before buying. My bad. It ends up that I probably over paid but I like the coin.
Impulse purchase VS calculated addition to my collection My Krause catalog shows $25 in BU. The coin might qualify as BU but I paid $35.
I believe Bulgaria has been forging coins since the 70's. There's even a term I came across ounce called a "Bulgarian blast cast." Which I guess is a pressurized cast?
You got a fine coin. Without looking up the coin let me guess the diameter -I would say 21mm? Sintering comes to mind, what's questionable is if they had access to such technology back then, today they've little trouble to get high quality machinery. Russia is another prime exporter of fakes.
A lot of packages arrived today. They seem to come in "waves". I have always wanted a "young Vicky" piece, and I couldn't pass up this beautiful farthing for less than $50. The 1928 Portugal and 1939 Switzerland coins have been on my horses want list for quite a while. I finally found them both in very nice condition. The other two coins (the Chinese 5Y and USSR 5R) were pieces I stumbled upon that were pretty inexpensive. I have the USSR 5R coin in proof also, but it's among my raw collection of horses for now. These 4 new horses put my Horses Signature Set (on the NGC website) at 140 pieces! :nice-smile:
Trial and 1940 peso Found this KM 138.2 1897 20 centavos (minted 5,073,000). It is slightly special since it is "white metal" trial strike. Very lustrous and difficult to photograph. Has got a very nice cartwheel, not a cast. Good condition 1940 peso minted 150,000
