The John Wayne western with Peace dollars is "Rio Grande", made in 1950. The film is set at a US Army Cavalry post in the 1880's.

Back to the Future with pretty much every paper currency you can imagine in Doc's "You have to be prepared for all monetary possibilities" briefcase.
My favorite scene with a coin was from the series "Rome". A man was paying the surgeon for an operation, and the doctor was going through coin by coin inspecting them. He threw one out saying, "this one is brass", (instead of gold). Great scene, and showed how coins used to be intensely studied to make sure correct change and payment was given.
"The Brasher Doubloon" is a pretty good 1940's detective film, based on the Raymond Chandler novel "The High Window". An imitation doubloon is used as a backdrop for the film's title credits. The coin is not the main subject of the story, the film is about a detective who is hired to find the coin, and gets involved with gangsters and women.
While you can get it on DVD, it doesn't appear to be an "official" release. More likely a copy made from a broadcast of the film. It is also viewable on Youtube in six parts.
Thanks. A couple of years ago I searched for a DVD of 'The Brasher Doubloon' and all I could find was a bootleg version. I don't think it has been "officially" released.
I remember the Hawaii 5-0. Does anyone remember the I Love Lucy episode where Ethel & Lucy search cents and they find a real keeper. Unfortunately they drop it and it is lost before they can cash in. They are left on the street crying over their lost "penny". In the modern movie Troy staring Brad Pitt they put gold coins on the eyes of their dead. Interesting how they could do this at a time before coins were invented.
There is another modern movie staring Nicholas Cage (I think) where he had a Confederate gold coin & he repeatedly taps it on the table while they casually sit around discussing their plans. They needed instruction regarding proper coin handling technique.
In Titanic, Rose hands Jack a shiny new Barber dime to pay for her painting IIRC. PS-I wonder if it was a '13-S
Considering the ship sank in 1912, no they wouldn't have used a 1913. On somw things Cameron was very strict on historical accuracy. The dime was an AU 1912 P. It belongs to James Cameron and he carries it in a watch fob.
