No, not before recently, just when I needed cash for bills. They take up too much room and accumulate too quickly at this point, so I need to move them or risk keeping them at home, which I'm not really that comfortable with.
Gonna increase my bankroll, actually, and reimburse myself for the costs of bags, as well as my "clad pile" of halves I'm gonna use to ensure bags have $1k in them since I'll need to replace the keepers.

What do you guys do with all of the 40%ers. Do you just hoard them or trade them in for cash or 90% silver?

I just started searching for 40% myself and have been collecting 90% coins and eagles for a while. When I get a decent amount of 40% coins I am not sure yet if I will just hold them or trade or sell them for 90% coins.

Two boxes on lunch gave up 2 40%ers, a '64 and a '02-S CUNI proof.

Found a bank near my work with about $400 in halves, but I only had $100 and change on me but I found 1 40%er and they had 3 Ikes.

Cash in the clad and get your money back and got get another $100 until they are all gone, there has to be more silver there! Do this quickly before someone else beats you to the punch.

Dude, I wish I had your problem! I can't wait for your yearly numbers. I'm shooting for 500 halves found this year, I want to make a box of 40%ers to have on hand. $500 face 40%ers would be the start to a nice stash. HOTN

I hope it lasts, what a wonderful problem to have, haha. My average per box has been insane over the past 2.5 months or so.

I am thrilled that I have pulled 5 40% out of about $325 never mind those crazy numbers, I can't even imagine.

I'm at 1.969 avg from boxes this year. Over a 1/4 oz per box, volume is the key.

Hoo, I just ran some numbers real quick... since 6/29, I'm averaging .616 90%ers a box and.... 7.09 40%ers per box. Holy crap. Over 1.27 oz per box. :D

Do you all just walk into your bank and ask for boxes of rolls or do you call ahead and order them?

man...i'm feeling all inadequate after reading this last page of posts. my bank doesn't get in many halves from customers, so i have to make due with quarters, dimes, and nickels. i have found four 40%ers in the last couple months, and that's it for halves.

today though, i searched through $500 in quarters, $500 in dimes, $100 in nickels, and $50 in pennies. i picked up a '64 quarter, dimes from '56, 61, and 2x '64, and war nickels 43P and 45P. all from customer dumps at the bank this week.

also got a handful of wheat cents, and still have one more bag of quarters to check.

Nice score on the quarter, those are tougher to find.

    thanks!

the last month or so has been pretty dry at the bank for quarters, but not for my lack of looking. the last few thousand dollars' worth of quarters gave up nothing prior to today. however, dimes and nickels have both been hitting regularly. i've picked up a half dozen dimes this week alone, and have found on average 1-2 war nickels per bag of $100 for some time now.

no one turns in halves here anymore. it's been six months since i've had to wrap halves, and we have to do that for every $100 worth of halves turned in. we also don't have people come in asking for them, so this area must be tapped out.
